Guy Fieri, Former Humboldtian and Celebrity Chef, Lauded for Raising $21.5 Million for Restaurant Workers Struggling During Pandemic

Yesterday, Newsweek posted a story about how former Humboldt County resident and Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives host, Guy Fieri has raised $21.5 million to help unemployed restaurant workers during the pandemic. According to the article, Fieri
…made personal pleas with large corporate sponsors, including PepsiCo, Uber Eats and Moët Hennessy USA, to support his Restaurant Employee Relief Fund. Fieri started the fund on March 27 as the COVID-19 pandemic was rapidly spreading through the U.S. and much of the world. The group has helped more than 43,000 restaurant workers “who have suffered financially due to the COVID-19 health and economic crisis,” particularly through $500 grants to restaurant workers in every state.
Restaurant workers have been particularly hard hit by the pandemic which has forced the closure of eateries across the nation. But with Fieri’s fund’s support, many have been helped with the one time grants.

Here in the US, we have to rely on the generousity of our oligarchs, rather than just maintaining a functional welfare state like most first-world countries. Don’t blame it on our immigration rate or some nonsense, either.

I blame it on lazy fucks that would rather blame someone else, or seek out help than bust their hump and get shit done….. Quit looking for a hand out and get a hand up…… they are out their if you work hard enough!
The recipients were folks who work to serve and feed “lazy fucks” who go out to eat instead of cooking for themselves. They might go to work hours before you rise and shine for a latte or mimosa. They might stay mopping up beer swill hours after you are passed out in front of the TV at home.
Upon further analysis, it seems more like Guy is wiping butt for those rich entitled politicians who sold our citizens down the river.

Yes, no doubt that Guy Fieri is a good fellow. But let’s all remember the hundreds of companies and private donors that have supported his cause. Too often we forget the band behind the band leader.
