Forest Service Offering Christmas Tree Permits for Shasta-Trinity National Forest Starting November 1

This is a press release from the U.S. Forest Service:

Shasta-Trinity National Forest will begin selling Christmas tree permits on November 1, 2017.  For many local families, the search for and selection of your own Christmas tree in the forest is a wonderful experience and tradition.

Last year, over 8,000 Christmas tree permits were purchased at Shasta-Trinity National Forest offices, with a majority purchased the week of Thanksgiving. We ask the public to please purchase your permit early to avoid long lines.  Permits may also be purchased through the mail by sending in the Christmas Tree Permit Application found on the forest website www.fs.usda.gov/stnf and payment to the Forest Headquarters Office in Redding.  Mail in permit requests should be postmarked no later than December 9, 2017 to ensure enough time for mailing and processing. Please note that the California Welcome Center in Anderson will not be selling permits this year due to changes in staffing.

Each permit costs $10, there is a limit of one tree per household and they are valid through December 25. Forest Service offices accept credit cards, cash, or checks made out to: USDA Forest Service. Fourth grade students are eligible for a free Christmas tree permit under the Every Kid in a Park program. Please contact one of the offices listed below for more information.  Unless noted below, all offices are will be open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to purchase your permit.   All offices will be closed November 10 and 23 in observance of the Veterans Day and Thanksgiving holidays.
