Breaking News: Gunshot Victim, Possible Fatality

Scanner traffic indicates that an assault occurred near the intersection of Eastern Avenue and Sunset in Arcata. At a little after 11 p.m., dispatch sent officers to the scene of a gunshot victim.

At one point scanner traffic indicated there was CPR in progress. Then, someone apparently at the scene indicated that the victim was 1144 which means a possible fatality.

We have requested more information from the Arcata Police and have sent a reporter to the scene.

UPDATE 12:13 a.m.: “Can we start notifying the Coroner?” asked dispatch.

UPDATE 12:39 a.m.: First photo in from the scene.

UPDATE 12:53 a.m.: According to Oliver Cory, our reporter who is sending in the photos, Eastern Avenue was “technically closed” but he was able to drive through.
