[UPDATE 4:48 p.m.: Open] Hwy 36 Completely Blocked by Downed Power Poles After Crash

Caltrans Hwy 36 Road ClosedTraffic is backed up on Hwy 36 after a solo vehicle crashed about 3:20 p.m. into power poles east of Carlotta on Hwy 36 about mile marker 5.9 near Wilder Road, according to Myles Cochrane, spokesperson for Caltrans.

Power poles fell across the road, Cochrane told us, and Hwy 36 is completely blocked with traffic backing up. Cochrane said there is no estimated time of reopening.

Reportedly the driver was not injured but her Pontiac sedan has a broken front axel.

There are no reports of electric outages on the PG&E Outage Map.

Please remember that information gathered from initial reports is subject to revision as more facts become available.

UPDATE 4:48 p.m.: The road is now open and traffic is flowing again.

Is the power out to a large part of the county or is pg and e and the county just leaving a large live transmission line on the ground on the side of the road?
