A big rig has overturned on San Francisco’s iconic Golden Gate Bridge closing both north and southbound traffic.

As of 7:15 p.m. Saturday evening, Highway 101 is closed in both directions as first responders clear the road. A tweet from the California Highway Patrol Marin account indicates the accident occurred in the northbound lane

The bridge is shutting down to allow personnel the room to get the big rig upright. CHP reminds travelers that high winds are reported in the area and high-profile vehicles need to avoid the area.

As of publication, there is no estimated time of re-opening.

UPDATE 8:57 p.m.: CHP Marin has announced the Golden Gate Bridge has reopened in both directions.

It looks to me like the truck was headed south, not north, presuming the strong winds were coming from the ocean side of the bridge, not the bay side.

Ever heard of the Bay Bridge? Most commerce uses it already.
