Engineer’s rendering of the Steel Truss Bridge Alternative for the Honeydew Bridge replacement

A reader of Redheaded Blackbelt who lives in Honeydew provided us with the selection of three bridges that residents were provided.  She said most residents picked the steel truss bridge because it is closest in style to the current bridge.

Also, an update from Humboldt County Public Works on the inspection of the current bridge on Wednesday, March 4th.   To plan your day, the bridge will be closed from 9:00 a.m to noon and from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

I like Alternative B and C because it enhances the “viewshed”, but understand wanting to maintain tradition. How about Alternative A and keeping it one lane to slow down the grow dozers barreling south bound through Honeydew?

Yeah right slow down get real! Do you know how many people crash in the 2 lane section over the green bridge in hopland every year?

The answer is: lots.

Put a honeydew bridge chump troll under it to charge tolls? Great revenue!

I get why people want to keep the aesthetics the same, so why not demand that all above deck aesthetics match the original as close as possible? It would obviously cost more. You could go with the concrete bridge and have the deck stamped to mimic boards and make them take the metal off the old bridge and attach it to the new one. And just try to blend any new structural components with the old ones. You would be able to see the difference but it would salvage as much of the original look as possible.. The engineers would throw a fit but they always do.

If they added wifi, many alternatives of trolls could be found there…

Thanks for the update Kelley, and Kym!
