A Humboldt Sherriff pulled a U-ey in front of me on 299 on my motorcycle once. Scared the shit out of me. I actually called it in. They said they would talk to the officer and get back to me. Never heard from them.

That cop caused that accident.

Police also have computers installed in the passenger’s seat of their patrol cars and are actively reading them while they drive, while also actively reading their phones.

All legal.
All dangerous as a stroke.

It’s actually not illegal, there is an exemption in the law for emergency workers. Still dangerous though.

You ever drive a patrol car? More blind spots than visibility. Considering how many hours officers spend behind the wheel every day, it’s bound to happen. It’s called an “accident” for a reason. Way to call in about something that wasn’t intentional. Get over yourself.

Really hope the CHP officer will be fine. How can you miss seeing a big rig coming at you? Making an illegal U-turn on a hill, blind corner? Responding to a Code 3 call, and turning without looking? Whatever the reason, he is just lucky to be alive.

So sad…. You would think the CHP would know better…. Hopefully he is find and lives another day And I will be reminded not to make U turns In pro Carius locations

Hope he’s ok.

Those big logging trucks can’t stop, too heavy, they need much more time to stop than a regular vehicle.

Peace to all.

i assume it was illegal because you are never supposed to make a u turn when there is someone coming with not enough time to stop. maybe he was being called to an emergency but i will have to wait for that answer (probably never will get that answer, if so it will most likely be kept hush hush)

The cop was following a car that was speeding. The cop was in between 2 log trucks and when there was a wide part of the road the trucks got over so the cop could pass leaving the log trucks behind the cop. The cop kept looking down at his work laptop or perhaps something else and the car he was following made a left when the cops head was down and the cop put his head up just in time to see he had turned so he made a u turn to go catch the speeder. My guess is that the cop was in a rush to catch the speeder and just forgot that the truck was behind him.

Based on the number of logging trucks in crashes, spilling their loads, closing roads for hours, I’d say these drivers are the worst, not just accessories to vile, forest raping corporate goons.

Not hardly. Read the statistics. Rarely the semi driver fault. More talk without facts as usual.

It doesn’t take a genius to know that, with all the weight they have behind them, they can’t stop on a dime just because some idiot pulls out in front of him, no matter what the reason. It anything, the load will shift and push them into whatever is in their way. I hope all involved will be okay.

~i’ve heard the logging trucks are driven by outta County, or State, guys. If true, i’m thinking they don’t know the roads that well. I’m reminded of the logging truck that spilled it’s load just this side (east) of Martin and Shirley’s two (?) years ago. The truck was going west and there’s a slight corner just before M & S’s. I can see how a logging truck going just a tinge too fast there would tip over.

The log truck that was involved in the crash is owned and driven by a seasoned and professional man that is local and hauls on that stretch of road regularly.

Always laying the blame on the truck driver’s, is plain garbage. There a far more vehicle accidents than truck accidents. Trying to blame another trucker for an accident bud? How about laying the blame where is truly belongs, on the CHP officer for making a U-turn in front of the truck. He may be a seasoned officer, but at this rate he will never make it to retirement!

Wasn’t two weeks later after the one got hit up in Klamath that a CHP did a U turn between me and the car in front of me….same place the other one did it and got hit.

Lucky for that Semi driver that there was a video of the accident as the CHP tried to blame the Semi…

This happened a few minutes behind me – the CHP was sitting on the side of the Hwy near one-lane controlled traffic construction site. I passed CHP, sat in stopped traffic and once past construction I had a steady stream of CHP, Sheriff and other emergency vehicles screaming west.

Obviously this officer is not an experienced driver. First off you really should make sure nobody is coming, I bet he did this near a corner so he couldnt see the truck until it was too late, Lesson learned the hard way.

Mike, it’s very clear you don’t know what you’re talking about. Accidents happen. Nobody understands that better than a CHP Officer. They spend countless hours behind the wheel. Eventually something goes wrong. They’re exceptional drivers. You wouldn’t last a shift. So chill on your judgement there Mr Perfect.
