Empty Home Caught Fire on M Street in Eureka

Structure Fire feature iconJust before 11 p.m., a fire broke out in a vacant single story family residence in the 3200 block of M Street near the intersection with Everding Street in Eureka.

The structure was “about 20% involved with a large amount of fire showing from the backyard,” reported the Incident Commander when he arrived on scene.

This is the second vacant structure in Eureka to catch on fire in the last few days. The first, which occurred October 30 around 6:15 p.m., completely destroyed the structure. Neighbors reportedly saw two figures fleeing just as flames showed on that one.

As of 12:30 a.m., firefighters are mopping up the scene and investigating the cause.

We need more bleeding heart liberals to add more programs and spend more of our taxpayer money in supporting the wacked out meth head zombies that are destroying our town. More tolerance everybody, that is what they say we need. More, more, more…….and the more we give the more they destroy.

Our greenbelts, which should be the highlight of our town, to be used for trails and wildlife are instead being used as illegal camp site, drug dens, and places where drugs are exchanged/needles, and human waste/garbage abounds!!

Sorry but true, please prove me wrong! PLEASE!!

Houseless people are not the problem.

An economy where people cannot afford rent is the problem.

The dire lack of affordable housing is the problem.

Thank you. And just rhetorically, because we’ll never really know, how much of that that 10.88% is owned by investors and banks willing to let them sit and rot?

Use it or lose it. If it’s not people burning down the house trying to keep warm it’ll be investors trying to cash in on insurance money on a home they’ve left to waste.

Not even close to what Trump is costing the American taxpayer. Playing golf at his golf course in Scotland with all levels of staff not once, but twice. Weekends in Florida by him and his friends at taxpayer expense. Foreign dignitaries staying at his New York hotel paid for by taxpayer money sent to his business accounts. His family members flying all over the world conducting business for Trump in Gov’t aircrafts including support staff and with their friends and all pa with taxpayer dollars. Flying to countries that have nothing to do with American politics. Wasted times in Korea. Poland? Finland? He is bankrupting this country like his four previous bankruptcies where he stiffed construction companies, employees and bank loans. And what has he done for America………….NOTHING!! Prove me wrong. Please

//”Not even close to what Trump is costing the American taxpayer “// Don’t look now, but what you believe you know about taxation wouldn’t fill a thimble. “American taxpayer” has such a ring – of manure.

All of you no Trump trumpers; for chrissake THINK! If you’re too young to know dick, and/or educated in the public fool system, please just STOP. Have you thought any further than your arm can reach about what happens if this weekend coup comes down? 24 hrs. and the shelves of food are empty. More than likely the infamous “grid” will go down.

ONLY THE NAMES CHANGE. GET OVER IT!

Why are the houses empty when there are so many left out in the cold?

Because the types that are left out in the cold burn down houses

They also turn your properties into drug dens and it’s extremely hard to kick them off your property if you’re foolish enough to rent to them

Maybe:
1. Being remodeled.
2. Recently sold and waiting for the sale to finalize.
3. The owner/s have passed and family is getting ready to sell.
4. The county has deemed the home unsafe to occupy.
5. The owners are readying it for sale.
Just a few possible reasons…….

Investors, foreign investors, stock markets and money laundering. We’re talking billions of dollars investors- not mom and pops. They bought bulk for pennies on the dollar, sold “rental income” REIT stock derivatives on the numbers or traded them in financial institution inside-deals and don’t want to invest real money in repairs and show a loss on the books. It’s going to collapse, just like the houses.

Maybe if these old houses are not good for anything they should be torn down, and the land sold by the city to a buyer. The lot price probably would cover the cost of destroying the house. We are putting our firefighters and others at risk when they are set on fire by bums, or?

Sounds efficient but in reality would be very complicated, costly and subject to fraud. At least some of these houses end up vacant because an elderly own ends up in a nursing of relatives home. They may hope to return home or feel insecure about selling. Some people do return home, some do not.

Then the bank may own the house on a bankruptcy and couldn’t care less about community or even the house’s value but would take court action if the city tries to claim it. Or it could be involved in an inheritance settlement and even if uncontested that can take awhile. In cases of conflict, it can take a very long time in which the city can be prevented from acting.

I’m sure neighbors in many of these situation complain to the police but the police can not act to evict squatters without a lot of work getting authorization nor does getting them out mean they won’t immediately return.

This is how ghettos start- with one broken window at a time.

Hmm, and the county had recently given $1.2million more to the transient issue. That’s on top of the excessive budget they get which is approx 60% of the total county budget. Eureka has a new transient program – they pay move in costs if transient finds housing. No wonder taxes go up and basic services go down. I guess if it’s not coming from their own pocket they don’t care.

Can’t people get a house sitter?

Somebody responsible that gets free rent to be there?

This house happens to be a rental. The reason it was vacant was because the previous renters trashed the inside and the owners were in the process of making all the necessary repairs. Everyone can stop second guessing why the house was not occupied.
