A fire is burning near Petrolia in the Conklin Creek area. Cal Fire received word of the blaze about 12:40 p.m., said Cal Fire Fire Captain Tran Beyea. “[It is] approximately one acre,” he told us.

As of 1:15 p.m., he said, “Air attack is overhead. Petrolia resources are on the ground. A Cal Fire engine is en route.”

According to Beyea, earlier an air tanker dropped on it and boxed it in which in addition to the fire being confined between two roads is helping stop the spread.

Beyea said though at this time the cause isn’t known, he has a caution for the community. He warned, “Even with the anticipated rain, remember the burn ban is still in affect. The fuels are still dry. The anticipated rain isn’t going to wet down the fuels enough.”

UPDATE 1:46 p.m.: Beyea said that Petrolia Fire has stopped the forward spread of the fire. Cal Fire engine is no longer responding and instead a Cal Fire officer is on the way to take a report.

🕯🌳Sounds like there getting a handle on it and if it’s raining out there it should be out soon.👍🏽

As long as it’s what the National Weather Service calls a “wetting” rain. Or at least that’s what they call it in good old Alaska. In any case, here come the rain!
