Check out this black bear stomp trail!
According to Kim Cabrera, a local tracker, she filmed this in late March in southern Humboldt. She wrote,
This is the first stomp trail I have found this season. Black bears make these trails by repeatedly walking over the same section of trail with a heavy foot stomp (and grinding motion of the foot too). This deposits scent in each track. Male bears do this and female bears will come along and sniff these footprints. It’s a way for bears to leave scent and attract potential mates.
