Jane Doe Describes Years of Alleged Harassment in Final Day of Testimony

This article contains descriptions of alleged threats involving violence and sexual harm, as presented in testimony during a preliminary hearing. A preliminary hearing is not a trial and does not determine guilt. Daryl Ray Jones has pleaded not guilty and is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

The final day of testimony in the preliminary hearing for Daryl Ray Jones revealed that while many of the most widely reported allegations stem from the spring of 2025, at least one witness described alleged harassment and threats that began years earlier and continued despite prior law-enforcement involvement.

Testimony concluded Wednesday, January 7, in Humboldt County Superior Court, bringing the evidentiary phase of the preliminary hearing to a close. The case now moves toward oral arguments, where attorneys will argue whether there is sufficient evidence for the charges to proceed to trial.

Earlier testimony in the hearing revisited allegations tied to March 2025, when schools and businesses across Humboldt County reported anonymous calls warning of imminent violence. Officers again described reports of callers claiming to be nearby, threatening to kill employees, students, or patrons, and prompting lockdowns and emergency responses. That testimony largely mirrored what the court had heard over previous days, outlining a cluster of incidents that disrupted schools and workplaces and left families and employees waiting for confirmation that no immediate danger existed.

Wednesday’s proceedings, however, expanded the timeline considerably with the testimony of Jane Doe #2, whose account described an alleged pattern of harassment that predated the spring 2025 incidents by several years.

Jane Doe #2 testified that she has known Jones since childhood. The two attended Jacoby Creek School together and briefly dated in middle school before losing contact after high school. She told the court she did not attempt to maintain contact with him as an adult, but that years later she began receiving unexpected communications that escalated into repeated threats.

According to her testimony, the alleged harassment intensified in 2021, when she began receiving frequent and threatening phone calls and voicemails. She testified that messages included statements such as “I’m going to kill you,” “I’m going to kill you and your whole family,” “God won’t be on your side,” and “I’m going to stalk you forever.” She described the calls as occurring “constantly every day,” saying they “really frightened me to the point I couldn’t answer those calls at work.”

Jane Doe #2 testified that over several years she received hundreds of calls to her workplace, dozens to hundreds of calls to her cell phone, and numerous voicemails and text messages. She said the volume and persistence of the alleged harassment affected her ability to work and led her employer, North Point Consulting, to reroute phone calls so she would not have to answer directly. She installed security cameras at her home beginning in 2021 and later shifted to part-time remote work because of ongoing safety concerns.

She testified that the matter was reported to law enforcement years before 2025 and that evidence was forwarded for review, but no charges were filed at that time. The calls slowed for periods of time, she said, but did not entirely stop.

On the stand, choking back tears, Jane Doe #2 described the fear she felt not only for herself, but for her family and coworkers. “I’ve been very concerned for the safety of my co-workers, because he had threatened everyone in the past,” she testified. She also told the court that knowing who she believed was responsible for the calls made the threats more intimidating, because of his familiarity with her, her family, and places connected to her life in Humboldt County, including the location of her childhood home where her parents still live.

She testified that when threatening calls resumed in early 2025, she was “horrified”.

Earlier Wednesday, Detective Celeste Villareal of the Arcata Police Department testified again about statements Jones allegedly made after his arrest. According to Villareal, Jones acknowledged that his conduct and statements were wrong, saying he “may have been an asshole” and had “said stupid shit.” She testified that he described the things he said as “horrible” and told her he “can’t erase that, and that that’s what he’s in jail for.”

Villareal testified that Jones repeatedly said it was not his intention to scare people and that he himself felt scared. She also said he expressed a sense of resignation, telling her he “wanted to stay in jail” and that he “didn’t want to move forward with his life.” Under cross-examination, Villareal confirmed those statements but said she was not aware of Jones being placed on suicide watch.

With testimony concluded, the court set a date for oral arguments in the preliminary hearing.

Oral arguments are scheduled for February 11 at 8:30 a.m., after transcripts of the testimony are prepared. At that hearing, attorneys will argue whether the evidence presented is sufficient for the case to proceed to trial or whether some or all charges should be dismissed. Redheaded Blackbelt will continue to report as the case moves forward.

This person has been terrorizing people for a longtime. The court should not ignore the extremely disturbing threats of violence and threats to kill. Hopefully, they can move forward with charging him.

Wow. The guy is really not well. Terrible to have been living with threats like that from him for so long.
We need short term mental hospitals for folks who are suicidal, healing from trauma that they are aware of, needing a quiet place to heal AND ALSO we need longer term hospitals for people with more long standing problems instead of throwing everyone in one place together and also using meds for everything just cause insurance and big pharma love that “Solution” along with deep breathing and meditation and peer counseling all of which have their merits and are not enough though cheap and easy in the short term.

Easier said than done. You can reinvent the wheel of BigPharma but if there’s no facilities, there’s no facilities.
