Siskiyou Deputies Find 1,400 Pounds of Marijuana and 2,000 Plants in Separate Traffic Stops

This is a press release from the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

trash bags in the back of a box truck, presumably bags of weedSiskiyou County Deputies have been hard at work this past week conducting multiple traffic stops that resulted in the eradication of illegal marijuana products. Near Grenada this Sunday, one of our Deputies stopped a Penske rental box truck for a lighting violation. A probable cause search of the vehicle later resulted in the discovery of 62 trash bags of illegal marijuana products, weighing over 1,429 pounds. The driver, Thibault Charvy, 43, of Willits, confirmed that the illegal marijuana product had come from the Shasta Vista area. He was then arrested for the transportation and possession of marijuana for sale and was subsequently booked in the Siskiyou County Jail.clones in cardboard boxes on a lawn

A second routine traffic stop occurred a few days earlier in the Mount Shasta area, when a deputy pulled over a Home Depot box truck for expired registration. The driver of this vehicle, Qinghai Tan, age 46, of San Lorenzo, CA, stated that he was driving to Seattle, WA, and disclosed that he was transporting illegal items. When Tan opened the rear door to the box truck, the Deputy found 28 boxes of illegal juvenile marijuana plants, totaling 2,184 plants. Tan did not have any transportation permits or required paperwork to transport marijuana and was subsequently arrested and cited for the transportation of marijuana for sale.home depot box truck pulled over on the side of the freeway

These traffic stops in conjunction with continuous search warrant and eradication efforts at the 2,000 illegal marijuana cultivation sites, are the primary mechanisms in which Siskiyou County law enforcement is able to counteract the epidemic of illegal marijuana cultivation. While our commitment to apprehend anyone who violates the law and our environment remain steadfast, we are only able to act insofar as current California legislation allows. Unfortunately, this legislation has proven insufficient to hold perpetrators of environmental, human trafficking, and violent crimes to account. It is imperative that the legislation does change to protect the public, private and tribal lands impacted by this illicit activity as well as the lives of all those exploited and harmed in this industry.

WOW, that press release goes hard Nancy Reagan’ist in that last paragraph. Epidemic? Are they talking about using rent a box trucks carrying weed or weed itself?

“… to counteract the epidemic of illegal marijuana cultivation.” I would say maybe it means the continued black market in weed. Not the legal lettuce itself, and not just this one method of transporting it. Maybe?

//continued black market in weed//

The market that has existed for a solid 60+ years. It became an epidemic when, lol. Anyways, at least they didn’t say “illegal cannabis market” so that is progress.

There are massive fields. There are neighborhoods much bigger than Trinity Pines where greenhouses are backed up to one another for miles. They are all very visible from the air or satellite. The authorities allowed this to build up over years while they did little to nothing about it. Heck- some of us even commented about it here in this comment section! But now the authorities are whining about how big they let it become and how they now need more resources to do the job they never did. It’s baffling unless you realize they allowed this to happen for…job security? They now have reasons to harvest lots of state grants to combat the problem they allowed to develop. I’m only cynical because this happens all the time with cops…and cop agencies. But hey- I guess they get to occasionally pull over some box trucks and get some press releases and the gullible public thinks “Boy- Those poor underfunded cops sure are trying to do their job”. What a joke…

Where have you been for 30 or 40 years? The extensive gardens and structures were whomped on continuously by CAMP and legalization under excessive, labyrinthine California regulations put the kabosh on the California industry. Red States like Oklahoma are beating us at our own game. You can’t use a “bank card” in any marijuana dispensary transaction; cash only. So, the Power Plant and its people still get whomped on by the Feds. Greenhouses are not “ backed up to one another for miles.”
YOU’RE cynical?! That’s funny. I’ll see your “cynical” and raise you double.

They ARE back to back for miles, in Shasta vista, almost exclusively the lefts fabled “people of color” grows, many on small parcels, almost all Asian names on ownership records.
the county tried to shut it down, but was sued

OK, assume you are correct. They must be permitted if any passer-by can see greenhouses extending for miles as you and Farce contend. Why bust JUST the van, but not the greenhouses that are visible for miles? Oh, so you contend that “the county tried to shut it down, but was sued.” Uh-huh. Ooooooh Kaaaaay, so what happened then? County must have lost if greenhouses are still visible for miles. Either that or you and Farce are suffering from “Cannabis Delusionary Syndrome” wherein you do not use pot in any way, shape or form, but it still hampers the logical thought of NON-users. Amazing. More examples every day.
I’ll put you and Farce in the “Hate the damn plant and its growers, users, supporters in any way, shape or form” category. Howzat work for you? It’s still a free country, Hate away. There I go again. Is that an oxymoron?

They are 100% not permitted. There has been tons of press documentation of this area for years. It is mostly Hmong people. The big dispute is that they have very limited water and its almost excluseivley delivered by truck. There is an ongoing 2021 class action lawsuit claiming that Shasta County had deprived residents access to potable water based on race and ethnicity.

Lifer, you meant to say
‘Siskiyou county’ not Shasta.
per county rules, if I recall correctly, there is no outdoor cultivation allowed, and only 6 plants allowed indoors.
so pretty much every interstate weed scene in Siskiyou is totally illegal.
i say interstate because it’s all sold elsewhere, and most of the workers aren’t locals either.
just another reason some people hate the new weed economy

And it’s most rednecked brush monkeys out to get the Hmong, who were invited to the US by the US government for the help they gave US fliers during the Vietnam war. Where were YOU during that war?

You really don’t know what you’re talking about about. Throwing us as “haters” for stating facts you cannot comprehend. Somebody IS hating here…go check a mirror, bro. Then drive out to Pluto’s Cave and look around. Miles of obvious grows…all black marker….none busted. Makes the old Pines look tiny…
Why do YOU think this is allowed in some places? Wait- let me grab my popcorn LOL

Buddy. Did you just crawl out from a craphole. Yeah they’re been backed up for miles for 7 years or more now. Thousands of greenhouses scattered across the high planes of siskiyou. Look at a map partner

Yes, 3% of the population of Siskiyou county receives 30% of the traffic stops by uniformed bigots and bullies.

I rarely agree with Farce, but in this case he’s right. Take a look at Shasta Vista on google earth and its greenhouses butted up against each for miles. It makes 2013 Humboldt look like nothing. Its literally greenhouses as far as the eye can see.

The home town of the Siskiyou Sheriffs, Yreka, does not allow for legal access to marijuana. They love having a club to beat up non-whites.

you sound as informed about dispo transactions as Donald Trump sounds about filling his gas tank. Cards are accepted all over the country. They run it as a debit and hand you change back. I don’t exactly understand how things work on the backend, but if I don’t have cash, I can definitely use a card to buy some mass produced Swiggitty.

What hysterical language, the “epidemic of illegal marijuana cultivation”. Of course ALL marijuana cultivation was illegal under the regime of right wing sheriffs, Nixonites and Reaganites. Sometime, look up how much water is pumped and how many tons of pesticides are used in Siskiyou county, then you can laugh at the overwrought propaganda from uniformed bigots and oppressors.

Let’s make this simple. Don’t drive through Siskiyou. Ever. I was looking up some information for Yreka – nothing to do with weed – and boy is that Sheriff’s dept. into profiling and making things up. And tormenting people after they ticket them.
