Nacho Problem Anymore: Buddy’s Pulls Frito Lay Truck Back from Highway 199 Cliff

Permission was given from Frito Lay to post this, as well as Buddys. Feel free to mention Buddys in this post as a successful recovery with very minimal environmental impact.

If you’re like us, you’ve been wondering if the snack truck that went off the bank along State Route 199 at mile marker 8 on Tuesday was recovered from that steep canyon. We can now assure you that yes it was, the Frito Lay truck was pulled back up on Wednesday, thanks to a coordinated recovery effort.

Caltrans posted this photo of the snack truck while it was close to the river.

Buddy’s Auto Center towing managed to bring the truck back with what they described as “very minimal environmental impact.” A Buddy’s driver who helped with the recovery shared a photo of the scene with us and said permission was given by both Frito Lay and Buddy’s to post it.

The driver escaped with minor injuries from the crash, which happened around 12:14 p.m. on August 26. The truck’s recovery stretched over several days.

With the truck now recovered, we can relax knowing the Smith River won’t be doubling as a dip.

I’m still amazed the driver escaped with a few bumps and bruises! That was a hack

Thank you to Buddy’s Auto Center Towing for getting that eyesore out of the rocks by the river. I am very glad the driver is fine.

Buddy’s had lots of experience with Trinity River recoveries. I think he got his start in Willow Creek in the 1960s, possibly the 1950s. No day is a typical day at the office for these folks.
