Humboldt County Seeks Public Input on Draft Election Administration Plan

Press release from the Humboldt County Office of Elections:

Humboldt County Voters Choice Act logoThe Humboldt County Office of Elections is seeking input from Humboldt County voters on the county’s updated draft Election Administration Plan (EAP). This important plan describes how the county will conduct its upcoming elections, so voter feedback is essential.

Background

In 2023 the County of Humboldt transitioned to the California Voter’s Choice Act (VCA) elections format and finalized the 2023 Election Administration Plan.

Approved by California lawmakers in 2016, and established by Senate Bill 450, the VCA expands voters’ options for how, when and where they cast their ballots by:

  • Mailing every voter a ballot
  • Expanding in-person early voting
  • Allowing voters to cast a ballot at any vote center within the county
  • Providing secure ballot drop off locations throughout the county

Under California law, the Office of Elections is required to submit an updated EAP that describes how the County of Humboldt will administer elections under the VCA. To ensure the revised plan serves the community effectively, the Elections Office is committed to engaging with voters and gathering public input on the draft plan.

The county’s draft EAP can be reviewed at humboldtgov.org/VotersChoiceAct.

Public Comment

Public comment on the draft EAP will be accepted until Friday, April 25 at noon. Feedback can be submitted through an online submission form, by email at humboldt_elections@co.humboldt.ca.us or over the phone at 707-445-7481.

Public Hearing

The Registrar of Voters will hold a public hearing to discuss the draft EAP on Thursday, May 15 from 6 to 8 p.m.at Arcata City Hall in the Council Chamber, located at 736 F St. in Arcata. Community members are invited to participate in person or on Zoom to share their input. More information on the public hearing will be provided on the Office of Elections website.

The County of Humboldt is committed to providing equal access to all county programs, services and activities through the provision of accommodations for individuals with qualified disabilities as required under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).With 72 hours prior notice, a request for reasonable accommodation for the public meeting can be made by calling 707-445-7481.

Voter ID would be a sensible requirement.

Why?
Provide evidence of an actual problem, then we can discuss a solution.

Trump actually won in Mendocino County with vote center ballots…

Two counts in Humboldt had Trump in the lead with vote center ballots…

In the final vote center ballot count in Humboldt, and maybe one other previous count, Harris BARELY squeeked by Trump…

Kinda make one wonder why that would be so different from the results of mail in vote ballot count totals…

Maybe you can try explaining it, without revealing a “problem”…

But that would require a thoughtful answer…
I won’t be holding my breath…

(I’ll save you some time, 17 lines…)

Conservatives tend not to trust mail in ballots. Liberals tend to trust them. Ergo, counts for Trump would be higher at vote centers than in mail in ballots.

“Conservatives tend not to trust mail in ballots.”

Where is your control group…???

I’m a conservative, and I TOTALLY trust the mail in ballots, THAT I SEND IN…

Do I totally trust the mail in ballots that other people send in…???

Not as much…

But no way would that ever cause ME to NOT vote by mail myself, AND would NEVER cause me to vote at a vote center instead…

So, I’m sorry, that theory really doesn’t stand up to logic or reason…

It’s total speculation…

You are stereotyping and pigeonholing republicans as non-trusting as you simultaneously try and stereotype and pigeonhole Democrats into a better light by describing them all as being trusting…

I’m not buying it…

Got a link to a peer reviewed study for that…???

Sounds like you don’t really have a very good explanation for it either…

All things being relative, the theoretical vote by mail and vote center ratios should be much more equivalent, and much less divergent…

Until I hear a much more plausible reason, than either you or Jebs have provided, I will consider such a vast unexplained discrepancy to be indicative of a justification for due consideration for further investigation into such a glaring difference…

(With all due respect…)

“… just 28% of Republicans say any voter should be allowed to vote by mail if they want to… An overwhelming share of Democrats (84%) continue to say voting by mail should be available to all voters.” https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2024/02/07/bipartisan-support-for-early-in-person-voting-voter-id-election-day-national-holiday/

That’s just a poll, not hard voting method preference data, by political party registration, at all, is it…???

That doesn’t solidly indicate any voting method preferences by political party, at all, does it…???
Republican vote by mail increased in the 2024 election, while Democrat vote by mail decreased…

And republican politicians increasingly embraced and encouraged mail in voting…

And it worked…

Link already provided…
It can be found here…

Sorry, your pew poll research still doesn’t explain such a massive “discrepancy”, for lack of a better term..

I’ve voted with an Absentee Ballot for decades. It’s very convenient.

‘California Republicans embrace mail voting’
BY LYNN LA
October 25, 2024 [Note the date]

https://calmatters.org/newsletter/california-republicans-election-mail-voting/

“Voting ends in California on Nov. 5, and nearly 3.3 million ballots had already been returned as of Thursday.
It’s not shocking that more than half of them are from voters 65 and older, the most reliable voters.
What’s more noteworthy is that the [mail in] turnout so far is higher among registered Republicans (16.5%) than Democrats (15.4%)…”

______________________________

Additionally, Trump was winning Harris, In Humboldt County, in the first, second, and third, post election, “vote center” results…

It wasn’t until the fourth post election results, and then also the cumulative post election results, that Harris finally overtook Trump in “vote center” vote results…

Do Liberals tend not to trust vote centers???

Is that why less Liberals vote in person…???

Is that why they vote mail in…???

Your explanation would only apply to mail in ballots, not vote centers, wouldn’t it…???

Unless you think that Liberals tend not to trust vote centers…

There may have been more truth to your statement that conservatives distrust mail in voting, in the past, than their as is as much truth to it, much more recently…???

Times, they be a changin’…

Your theory may be a bit dated…

Here is some pretty recent information that somewhat contradicts your theory…

That was then, but this is now…

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/01/11/us/politics/trump-2024-election-mail-votes.html

‘Despite Trump’s Attacks, Republicans Made Big Gains in Mail Voting’

Jan. 11, 2025

“Republicans made almost universal gains in mail voting during the 2024 election, eroding a key Democratic advantage in nearly every state that tracks party registration, according to a data analysis by The New York Times.
The Republican rise in the use of mail voting was almost always accompanied by a drop in registered Democrats casting a mail ballot…”

So much for your theory…???

Explain this…

https://www.mendocinocounty.gov/government/assessor-county-clerk-recorder-elections/current-election-results

Election day voting :

Kamala Harris : 47.56%
Donald Trump : 47.69%… WINNING…!!!

Absentee voting:

Kamala Harris: 62.23%

Donald Trump: 33.62%

That’s quite a difference…

Good luck…!!!

Republicans kept saying that mail votes were not secure and that voters should vote in-person.
Of course in-person voting would lean more heavily Republican.

I voted Republican by mail…

So much for that fuzzy logic theory …

Really doesn’t explain it…

Doesn’t really sound very scientific, or convincing, at all…
