Press release from Gasquet Ranger District:

The Gasquet Ranger District will reopen several roads that were temporarily closed for suppression repair operations due to the Smith River Complex.

All roads listed within the temporary road closure order for the Gasquet Ranger District, Forest Order Number 10-24-02, will reopen to the public on June 16, 2024. This road closure order was necessary to provide for public and worker safety during suppression repair operations within the Smith River Complex area. The public is asked to remain cautious when driving in the area as there are some crews and equipment still working on repairs.

The bridge across Shelly Creek was destroyed by the Smith River Complex and there is currently no vehicle access across the creek to Forest Service Roads 18N16 and 18N17. The public is still able to access the roads by foot or bicycle. As a reminder, driving motorized vehicles across a watercourse is prohibited on the Gasquet Ranger District. At this time there is not an estimated time of repair for the bridge.

All Port Orford Cedar (POC) gates, which are closed seasonally during the winter to protect against the spread of POC disease, have reopened to the public.

For public information please call the Gasquet Ranger District at (707) 457-3131.
