Fatal Crash at Old Arcata and Jacoby Creek Roads Early This Morning

The “[h]igh speed vehicle took out fences and fixtures as it careened though the Post Office parking lot and across the road, through the Temperance Hall parking lot and plowed into the Bayside Grange,” according to the report from the Mad River Union.
The victim has been removed from the vehicle. PG&E and the Arcata Police Department (APD) are on the scene. County building officials are currently assessing the structural stability of the Bayside Grange due to the impact of the crash.
More details will be provided as they become available.

Reading the link, the photo from Facebook had the license plate number blurred out and this didn’t. It’s curious that there are different standards for reporting.

Damn, that one photo looks like the car knocked the Grange off it’s foundation.
I am sorry that the driver died in the crash, but they could have killed someone in another vehicle. I don’t know why they were speeding, there is just no excuse for that. I hate to say it, but drugs or alcohol taken by the driver unfortunately could be the cause. My condolences to the driver’s family and friends.

Im sorry to hear this, may they rip. Though its kinda hard not to speculate, when it’s was 230am , bars had recently closed. Traveling at a high rate of speed( bad judgment). and the fact that they went through multiple properties with out really stopping( slow or no reaction time). One can only assume it might be alcohol related.
Unless a medical emergency this is another mental health incident that erupted to the surface and for which there were no doubt many warnings for and yet we still don’t notice the canaries in our coal mine have stopped singing. Meanwhile in other news our species is putting on “Mental Health Fundraisers” at the park with $3 hot dogs (not good brain or mood food given hot dogs these days are made from industrially raised tortured animals and fillers and modern aka untested in the long-run chemicals) rather than insisting on an infrastructure for health care. Oh well i guess we have other priorities such as: drooling vicariously over the obscenely wealthy’s lives, buying a lot of plastic crap, eating McFood, painting fingernails, dying hair, big fat shiny trucks that never saw a day of real work in their lives, playing on-line games, building big muscles that do no manual labor except in the gym and on and on and on and on. Is our species gonna grow up ever?
Probably not. This is the Death Spiral and many people are just checking out of reality. Reality has some scary things going on and it’s easier to jump into distractions so you don’t feel bad or get scared. And people encourage each other to join in distractions… I think it’s a cowardly way to go out. But excessive drinking and drugs and other things you listed are quite popular with the in-deep-denial cowards and even more so every scary day. The world is about to die? Turn and face our problems I say- maybe we all still die but at least we try. Find others that are rejecting the death spiral matrix and find courage, encouragement, beauty in this wonderful place we are living. Stay strong and be kind. It ain’t over till it’s over…

Is drinking and driving a mental health issue? I guess it is because your brain is telling you to do something stupid but it’s not the mental health issue most people think of when they think of mental health.
