Smoke from 47-Acre Prescribed Burn Visible to Southern Humboldt Residents

Residents may be seeing a large smoke column near Ettersburg but there is no need for alarm. The smoke is from a 47-acre prescribed burn conducted by local Cal Fire crews.

The following is a press release from the Cal Fire Humboldt-Del Norte Unit’s Facebook page:

CAL FIRE HUU will be conducting a prescribed burn of approximately 47 acres in the area of the Ettersburg, Wilder Ridge Road X French Ranch Road. The prescribed burn will take place as conditions allow on Saturday, October 1st., 2022.

These burns are part of the prescribed fire program for vegetative management and hazardous fuels reduction. The treatment will help to enhance the health of the native plant communities, aid in the control of non-native plant species, protect and enhance oak woodland habitat for animal species, aid in the reduction of hazardous fire fuels and control of on uncontrolled wildfire.

During these prescribed fire operations, residents may see an increase in fire suppression resource traffic, smoke will be visible and traffic control may be in place. Please be cautious for your safety as well as those working on prescribed burns.
