The City of Arcata Transportation Division is excited to announce that the Arcata and Mad River Transit System (A&MRTS) is extending free bus rides through the month of July.

The City encourages Arcata residents and visitors to take the bus to run errands and to explore Arcata’s neighborhoods, businesses, parks, and recreational spaces.

“A&MRTS is excited to continue offering free bus rides to the community. Public transit is a safe, affordable, and more environmentally-friendly way to travel, shop, and explore our beautiful area. We hope visitors and residents take advantage of free bus rides and continue to use public transit beyond July,” said City of Arcata Transit Manager, LeAnn Schuetzle.

Free bus rides in Arcata are currently in effect through Saturday, July 30 with A&MRTS offering transit routes that run Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. during the summer months.

Great news!! All the public transportaion needs to be free for all everywhere in USA.
The annual subsides, grants, gifts, tax reductions and other money passing to the oil corporations would easily pay for it with plenty left over to build more hi-speed rail.
USA= only major country on earth without it.

Let me begin by confessing that I don’t know the financials of local public transportation. But I’m willing to wager any rider “fare” covers a very small percentage of the actual cost of operating the service. If that’s the case and the buses are running anyway, then why not let them be “free” (ie tax payer supported) all the time and get more use out of the system instead of the buses cruising the county near empty all the time? Just wondering.
