A new fire, the K-Rail is burning southeast of Hoopa about 4 miles. It was discovered about 7:20 a.m. According to a video posted by the Hoopa Fire Department and Office of Emergency Services, the fire was about 30 acres at 9 a.m.

All tribal resources are engaging with the fire and they are being supported by other agencies. There are no evacuation orders or warnings on this fire.

Just for a bit of perspective about the number of fires currently burning in this area: the River Complex is about 25 miles from Hoopa, the Knob Fire is about 10 miles from Hoopa, the Monument Fire is about 20 miles from Hoopa, and the K-Rail Fire is about 4 miles.

Please remember that this story is unfolding. Information is being reported as we gather it. However, some of the information coming from witnesses and initial official reports could be wrong. We will do our best to get the facts but, in the case that something is inaccurate, we will update with correct information as soon as we can.

UPDATE 2:44 p.m.: The fire is 10% contained. “Making good progress.”

UPDATE 9:03 p.m.: According to Fire Chief Greg Moon, with better mapping the fire is now believed to be 16 acres. The fire is 35% contained at this point, he said in a video broadcast tonight.

Kym, I know you’re busy.. But as of this morning the comments section can’t be seen in the laptop (non-phone) version of your website.
Is this new akismet thing doing that? Can it be fixed?
Thanks.

I just hope they can get the fire out before it becomes larger and threatens homes, out buildings, etc. Stay safe firefighters.

both fires on remote timber property. sounds like a clear glass bottle, someone cutting up rounds, or someone shooting off rounds is the source. most human caused fires can be avoided by using the friggin brain. but i guess you need to have a brain first. to think these were arson is a sign of not using the brain.

Firemappers has this located east of Trinidad and Westhaven in the Little River watershed on Green Diamond property.

The K rail title is surely from the K rail the tribe placed severl years ago when the reservation had an alignment of property. The K rail blocked folks from driving on to the square from a back road

Actually, out past Horse Linto Campground. Often called “Tish Tang” due to its’ proximity to Tish Tang Ridge, which is not Tish Tang Campground.

The only good news is this area burned recently (last summer?… it’s all becoming a blur) and the fuel load is reduced.
