Three Eureka Residents Arrested After Traffic Stop in SoHum Yields Trove of Meth and Heroin, Says DTF

This is a press release from the Humboldt County Drug Task Force. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

Mathew John Roberts

Mathew John Roberts

On October 24th, 2019, at approximately 8:45 a.m., special agents with the Humboldt County Drug Task Force (HCDTF), with the assistance of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Highway 101 and Maple Hills Road, Miranda. During their multi-week investigation, agents received information that the occupant of the vehicle, Mathew John Roberts (age 33), is trafficking methamphetamine and heroin to Humboldt County communities. Through their investigation, HCDTF believed Roberts had purchased a large amount of narcotics in Southern California and was en route back to Humboldt County.

The driver of the vehicle, Daniel Charles Silva (age 35), along with front passenger, Roberts, were both detained without incident.

Agents searched Roberts’ vehicle pursuant to a search warrant and located approximately 7 pounds of suspected methamphetamine. Agents also located nearly an ounce of suspected heroin along with scales, packaging material, and other items consistent with drug sales.

Both Roberts and Silva were subsequently placed under arrest and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on a variety of narcotics violations. Roberts is currently on Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) and is ineligible for bail at this time.

Agents also secured a search warrant for Roberts’ residence, located in the 300 block of Pleasant Avenue, Eureka. At this location agents discovered additional items associated with narcotics sales, smaller amounts of suspected methamphetamine, and a loaded 9mm handgun.

Jessica Elizabeth Larsonv

At the residence agents contacted Jessica Elizabeth Larson (age 34) and placed her under arrest for possession of controlled substances and an outstanding felony warrant. Agents will be recommending weapons charges to be filed against Roberts and Larson to the Humboldt County District Attorney’s Office.

Anyone with information related to this investigation or other narcotics related crimes are encouraged to call the Humboldt County Drug Task Force at 707-267-9976 or the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Tip Line at 707-268-2539.

Very sad…Larson looks like a poster child for the faces of death. Our young kids need to see pictures in the classroom to encourage them to stay in school and friends do matter so choose wisely.

I only hope that the justice system will not just slap their hands, give them a fine and let them go. Repeat offenders should be lock up for a chunk of time. Too easy for them to go on their merry way after getting caught.

Judges set sentences. Judge’s hearts don’t bleed. They pump blood through the body.

Or is this about plea deals, like the serial child molester who plead guilty and got ** years, chosen by one of his victims?

Your comment, with its negative judgement, is both erroneous and nonsensical. Tsk, tsk.

Of course judges’hearts bleed same as anyone else. Some of them like a hemophiliac. But the prosecution sets what charges are brought, negotiates plea deals before the start of a trial and that also determines what the sentences are. They analyse what they are likely to be able to convince a jury or a judge and, if the case looks uncertain or will take a lot of effort, they might just tempt the criminal to plead guilt to a lesser charge by threatening them with a big sentence.

Then there’s a list of “diversion” programs such as for substance abuse, mental illness, juveniles and former military that the judge might choose. The stated purpose of those is to reduce the prison population so no one should be surprised when they do just that.

Then there is Propdition 47, which where many rules where changed to make incarceration less likely simply be redefining the crime to a misdemeanor. And finally, if actually sent to prison, there are early release credits of various kinds, like for attending college classes , anger management classes, etc. Frankly, it not surprising that Marci Kitchen stayed out of jail for 2 years and is likely going to be in for 3 or 4 before being released.

Long term rehabilitation and mental health is the only solution. Heroine addicts are handcuffed and chained by this illness. Don’t start with the negative comments unless there is a glass house that you live in.

Well doing drugs is one thing, and I wouldn’t give anyone a pass on that either. But these people were bringing in large amounts to poison our community and make a lot of money at it. This fuels the window smashing that happens here way too much and the shootouts, the people talking to themselves on the streets, and many other shitty things about our area. I wish the worst for these guys!

This bust wont change shit.

Addicts will get their stuff.

Dealers will supply their stuff.

Police intercept a fraction of their stuff.

Some people go to jail for having their stuff.

Other people replace those people with their stuff.

*rinse, repeat*

I hate the effects of illegal drugs but legalize it which will drive the price down, put the criminals out of business, and stabilize production / quality.

Make being under the influence a sentencing enhancement. Commit at crime against person or property while under the influence and get extended mandatory locked up treatment.

Well in my glass house I don’t use excuses like that. Doing drugs is a plain and simple choice. I quit by just saying no. Detox was a bitch, but in order to quit I had to want to. A lot of people just plain and simple don’t want to. A physical addiction can be beaten by will power and choices. You have to want it. Only one person controls you and its you. The audience in your head will need convincing, but only you can make that happen.

Got that backwards there- people who live IN glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. But guess what- there are way, way, way more people who chose not to live in those glass houses than who did. So, having avoided going down that path yet being expected to pay to support those who chose did, they have a perfect right to pitch a few stones and those who did choose that path, despite every attempt to teach them otherwise, have little to complain about if they do.

They don’t have vote. All it takes is putting a snappy, feel good title on a proposition or law (Prop 47 was originally titled The Safe Neighborhoods and Schools Act by California Attorney General Kamala Harris), a few favorable essays in the press, and run a few ads with a bunch of bobbleheaded yet seemingly so sincere people touting the good it will bring, and a good share of the non criminal classes will vote for it without reading.

Tweekers don’t vote. They dont care about life. Why what happens to it? To them a wasteland like Bartertown would be ideal. Drugs will flow even after electricity is out and the last drop of gas runs dry…… there will be sack of dope and lightbulb to smoke it out of!
