The mother of Dakota Stafslien, who tragically lost her life in a hit-and-run incident earlier this month, is seeking answers and justice for her 28-year-old daughter. Sandee Brown is asking the community to come forward with any information that may help identify the driver responsible for Dakota’s death.

According to a press release from law enforcement, on May 4, at approximately 2:45 a.m., the Humboldt Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a pedestrian lying in the lanes of northbound Hwy 101, near Piercy. Officers from the California Highway Patrol’s Garberville Area responded to the scene. Upon arrival, they found Dakota Stafslien, a resident of Southern Humboldt who had been struck by a vehicle. Dakota was pronounced dead at the scene. The vehicle involved in the incident did not stop or call to report the collision.

Sandee Brown hopes to find out who is responsible for her daughter’s untimely death. She is urging the community to help by providing any information that might lead to the identification of the driver involved.

The California Highway Patrol’s Garberville Area is investigating the incident and has asked the public for assistance. They urge anyone with information about the vehicle or person involved to contact the California Highway Patrol, Garberville Area, at (707) 932-6100 during normal business hours (Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm).

This tragic event has left the Southern Humboldt community asking for answers and a mother in search of closure. With the community’s help, we hope the CHP can find the individual responsible and bring some peace to Dakota’s family.

I would love to see who raises these people who can do this. Marcy and the guy who’s daughter was hit by Marcy then he did a hit and run on Fernbridge , and all the others . I don’t understand how humans can suck so bad .

This county has multiple problems regarding this type of crime. First, it’s the slime bags lowlifes who are so morally depraved that commit these crimes. Then, it’s the injustice system where DA attorneys refuse to prosecute, overpaid defense attorneys do everything to not just present honest defense but rather lie profusely to get thei clients off scott free, and judges who are just as bad. Of course, we could never expect anything different out of a state run by Demonocrats.

Capital punishment is the answer to most violent crime.

Also the countless people that victim blame and bash the deceased in this county. People have been kind so far on this post, but the original article had some pretty nasty and unnecessarily speculative comments. It’s really shocking, I’ve checked out other big city and small town news sites across the US and still haven’t found one with as many comments per article, and most definitely not ones attacking/speculating about those they’ve passed. It’s so weird!!! Even LOCO stopped allowing those kind of comments.

It’s okay that Kym allows those comments. I don’t like them but I dislike censorship more. And the ugly people expose themselves for all of us to see…so that’s okay. I hope that anybody close to the victims does not read the comments…and I imagine they are deeply in grief and not be doing so.
I wish only peace and kindness for this family at this time.

People say a lot of cruel, evil, victim-blaming things when there is no name and no face attached to the victim. Once there’s a name released they’re a lot less eager to be heartless. I guess it’s easier to be a piece of shit when the victim is anonymous.

I commend you for pushing to find answers, and want to remind you to take care of YOU.
I know how unimportant that seems as you grieve,
