At 2:12 p.m. on August 31, emergency dispatch received a report of a vehicle smoking and blocking Alderpoint Road just east of Garberville.

According to scanner traffic, the smoking car was between Upper and Lower Sawmill Road. A second call to emergency dispatch stated that the vehicle was fully involved a little while later.

The Garberville Fire Protection District and Cal Fire were both requested.

Incident Commander, Garberville Fire Chief, Tim Tietz told Redheaded Blackbelt that the fire was extinguished with no spread to the vegetation.

According to the CHP Traffic Incident Information page, the vehicle, a Jeep Cherokee, had burn damage on 90% of the vehicle. A tow truck is en route to the scene of the incident. At this time, no injuries have been reported.

As firefighting resources are drawn down due to the large lightning caused wildfires burning across Northern California, smaller fires can become life-threatening if not caught quickly.
