very logical point of inquiry. You don’t get out much? Another point of inquiry is: was an attempt made to adjust driving modalities to ambient conditions or was it pedal to the metal, devil take the hindmost?

We call this CRASH Gulch because there are always so many accidents in that spot. They need road bumps there to slow people down

So glad to read the updates and comments to learn that she is doing good! My heart sank when I heard the crash that night.
Based on our daily observations and experiences driving at that turn in “CRASH Gulch,” the road is banked and graded at an angle that’s too steep—particularly for drivers who are inexperienced at taking turns, and especially for those who are DWI.
It’s kinda built like a turn at NASCAR (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYvdS73abgI)!
The steep grade supposedly helps the cars, trucks, big-rigs and motorcycles (note that I did NOT say professional race car drivers) on the way to Fortuna go around that turn with enough force to help propel them up the hill that’s at the end of the turn—but the vehicle has to be going fast for that to work, and that’s where driving experience and sobriety are key to making that turn successfully. The bank seems to be creating so much lateral force that it’s pushing vehicles to the left, over the surface markings, and into on-coming traffic. The on-coming traffic usually can’t see what’s coming around the bend, either.
Although this is the first head-on in at least 2-3 years, we are assuming there have been plenty of near-misses because we hear honking on the daily. I don’t think they (the City of Hydesville?) would put 15mph speed bumps on this type of road with this type of traffic anyway. They (CalTrans?) need to fix the grading of the road itself, or at least put those flexible poles where the surface markings are to remind people to Stay in their Lane!
