There is no area near the HWY 20 exit that they could have went over 100 ft. Maybe it was further north towards willits?

My guess is that the report probably should have said that the vehicle traveled 100 ft over the side of 101, and I speculate that excessive speed and not wearing a seat belt was a major player in this incident.

Compared to the other highways in Mendocino and Humboldt, 101 is much easier to navigate, and my traveling it for decades without any incidents on my part.

Are these facts ? They were speeding? No seatbelts?

No such things as facts in the comment section. Accusations, trolling, assumptions, guessing games, conspiracy theory webpages and arrogance is most likely the “source” of such “facts”.

Oh, Jennifer. Facts? From commenters? Really?

No, but common sense at least points to the very high probability that both of these are major factors.

Sounds like he is just guessing. It doesn’t require any facts.

So let me get this straight, one of the dead had major injuries? Not to make lite of the deceased, my condolences.

You could bet that both of the deceased had major injuries, as did the third patient. You don’t get to deceased in a car accident very often without passing through the major injury phase.

The actual accident report is shown in the Anderson Valley Advertiser. The deceased passenger was not “using safety equipment”.

The comments on here so far don’t show any respect for the two people that died, and the injuried young boy. It does not matter if or if not they were wearing seat belts. They paid with their lives. I am hoping the young person is going to be fine. May they RIP.

I am a relative of one of the deceased and very disappointed in the assumptions and comments. You should be ashamed. Lives were lost too soon. A father was taken from his young daughter. And a woman from her family. God may they rest in peace.

Theautry, I am so sorry to learn the female driver was pregnant with baby due in January. Is there any chance that the unborn baby could have survived? May they RIP. God Bless.

I have not read any disrespectful comments… People just want to know the facts. Would the outcome have been different if seat belts were used? Likely so. Maybe someone reads this then decides to use their seat belt when they otherwise wouldn’t have.
Thoughts and prayers with the family and the young boy!

It’s frustrating to read about traffic deaths on Hwy 101, when many could have been prevented. The most notable ones ,in my memory, was the death of a father who lost control of his vehicle at a high rate of speed, and slid his vehicle in front of a oncoming semi truck, severely injuring his two young children.

Several years back, a young man was killed after becoming impatient in following a semi truck, whereas he failed to negotiate a turn at a high rate of speed while passing the semi, killing his younger sister in the process.

I feel that many drivers that I’ve encountered are far more focused on their destination, and less on their journey.
