According to CHP Ukiah, “US-101 southbound closed between Perkins Street and Gobbi Street due to an active and ongoing investigation. Detour is in place. Please seek alternate routes to avoid delays.”

The CHP  have confirmed to MendoFever that this a traffic stop that resulted in a fatal shooting.

Social media is reporting that law enforcement shot someone with a firearm but that has not been confirmed. At this point we don’t know if the deceased was shot by himself of someone else.

Law enforcement and emergency personnel have converged on the southbound lanes of Highway 101 between Ukiah’s Perkins Street and Gobbi Street where a reported dead body is lying in the roadway covered with a yellow tarp.

Scanner traffic indicates emergency personnel have confirmed a subject is deceased and are redirecting traffic to diminish traffic in the area.

Law enforcement is establishing traffic control along Highway 101 South and has closed the southbound on-ramp to Highway 101 from Perkins Street.

An eyewitness reported personnel from the Ukiah Police Department, California Highway Patrol, and the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office were on the scene

The Caltrans Quickmap shows traffic in the area is significantly slowed as first responders try to contain the area.

Please remember that information gathered from initial reports is subject to revision as more facts become available

UPDATE 2:33 p.m.: California Highway Patrol Officer Alex Kimball told us the fatality along Highway 101 this afternoon was the result of a shooting that occurred after CHP officers conducted a traffic stop. Initially, the subject was pulled over by law enforcement suspected of being a Be-On-the-Lookout subject from Pacifica. Officer Kimball could not confirm an officer fired their weapon but said the “traffic stop resulted in a shooting.”

UPDATE 4:02 p.m.: “101 is back open,” law enforcement tells dispatch over the scanner. However, Caltrans QuickMap still shows the roadway is closed.

Some fool down in Pacifica stabbed two people this morning – killing one.
Hopefully, this is that fool.

Lol. No kidding. People only see what they want. His eyes magically skipped right over any information that wouldn’t confirm his bias against law enforcement. Another tragic success story of the public education brainwashing.

I’m sure he also won’t see the follow up story confirming this is the suspect from Pacifica. … And this is why we’re here as a country now.

I suppose the price of fuel is down and inflation, crack you up. It’s an election year, you’ve been had! Now pay the man, oh yeah, you already did and don’t even realize it.

i was about 100yards north of this headed up the bike path overpass..i missed the the actual shooting but can confirm there was what appeared to be a shotgun beside the suspect who appeared to have been shot in the head.. My concern is for the officer having to cope with this so close to the holiday..especially if this is the first time hes been put through such a traumatic circumstance.. It appeared from my perspective that there were no other options here . Who knows..he may have prevented something tragic from taking place..and if he had been allowed to run on foot….i might not be writing this…

If people would not brake the law, and listen to what the law tells them, this wouldn’t happen. That goes for people that carry fake guns to. Some people have no respect and blame good people for their stupidness.
