Dangerous Surf on Friday and Through Weekend, Says National Weather Service.

Warning! Dangerously large waves are expected on the Coast beginning Friday at 4 a.m. and lasting at least until 10 p.m. And, the National Weather Services warns,

High surf is forecast for the next several days through the weekend. Jetties are particularly dangerous and large waves can appear suddenly. Don’t be fooled by rocks and jetties that seem to be too high to be overtopped by waves. It might just be a period of smaller waves. Larger waves can suddenly appear and wash over previously dry rocks and jetties. Visitors should avoid dangerous areas such as exposed rocks, jetties, and steep beaches. Never turn your back toward the ocean.

In the last month, waves have tragically swept several people into the water.

In addition, the National Weather Service advises, “Mariners traversing the bar are urged to exercise extreme caution or stay in port until the threat subsides.”

Please be careful near the Coast.

The north jetty needs a big flashing information sign that either closes the road or says DANGER DANGER HIGH SURF
It’s way past time. Who will die next?

Don’t close the road for idiots. Normal thinking folks should be able to go to the beach when they want, even in high surf weather. Just be smart enough to stay out of harms way.

There are no “normal thinking” people in Humboldt.
And if there are, they know enough to stay off the jetty on high surf days, right?
Close the road.

Old-timer. A lot of the folks who die on the Jetty are out-of-towners. Once Covid-19 is conquered, how about if we warn our tourists? Millions of folks have never lived near the ocean.

Just put up a sign. No gate. Next thing people will want all forest roads, coastal trails and all wilderness trails closed in winter. Why don’t we just kill all the bear, elk, mountain lions and domestic dogs while we’re at it? And forbid people driving on highways in the rain?

You can’t fully protect people from mother nature in rural areas. This ain’t the city.
Christ, people jump straight into boiling hot springs in Wyoming, hopping the closed gates and regulated walkways to get to them. Nothing left but skeletons. You think a gate is going to stop people? No, it’s only going to prevent locals from enjoying what is in their own backyards.

I AGREE! Why should locals be denied access to our public lands because of out of towners. A sign should be enough. If they don’t believe, that is their problem. When I visit other places, I definitely heed warning signs, don’t you?

Days are incorrect. Today Friday the 9th is very average for the North Coast. The real swell moves in mid morning Saturday, and last through Sunday. Raw swell could hit 23′ at 20 secs. That is large. 28-35’+ breaking waves at stand out spots. This will also line up with some of the higher tides of the winter. Look from a distance. Stay Back this weekend. Thank you.
