CHP Deploying Additional Officers on Butts Canyon Road May 26, State Route 20 May 27

By US Air Force from USA – Traffic control, Public Domain, Link

This is a press release from the California Highway Patrol:

In an effort to reduce the number of motorcycle crashes , the Clear Lake Area will deploy additional officers on May 26, 2024, on Butts Canyon Road, and again on May 27, 2024, on State Route 20, within the County of Lake. Officers will look for violations by both motorcycle riders and drivers that make roads dangerous for other traffic, including unsafe speed, following too closely, unsafe lane changes, and improper turning.

Motorcycle-involved crashes in California continue to be a major concern for the California Highway Patrol (CHP).  From January 2022 through December 2022, provisional statistical data revealed there were 37 traffic crashes involving motorcycles and 3 fatal crashes involving motorcycles in the CHP Clear Lake Area jurisdiction.

Funding for these operations is provided by a grant from the Office of Traffic Safety , through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Titled “Get Educated and Ride Safe (GEARS) VI,” the grant funding assists the CHP in reducing deadly and serious injury crashes involving motorcycles, The Clear Lake Area will continue to deploy additional enforcement efforts through September 30, 2024.

The average Lake County Driver (LCD) is speeding, but only about 95% of the time…

The average LCD will pass over the Double Yellow, Tailgate, Drive Under The Influence of drugs and Alcohol, and, they are likely to get belligerent if you don’t follow the above rules…

As for the CHP, the entire force appears to be refusing to pull anyone over, and the revenue from traffic fines is WAY off…

It is my opinion that we have a target-rich environment for citations, a very large number of crazy and unsafe drivers, 30,000 old white Dodge pickups being driven unsafely while having co-occurring equipment violations…

Lake County itself only contains 2.7 miles of newer roadway, and motorcyclists love to speed through the Black Forest section of Soda Bay Road, even though a spark could ignite Mount Buckingham and cause the destruction of hundreds of homes in Riviera Heights, Riviera West and Buckingham, all of which should never have been built in the first place…

The entire length of Soda Bay Road is crumbling, and so is Point Lakeview Road, which your ancestors used in Horse Drawn Wagons, not that long ago…

The lake County Supervisors don’t give a fuck, the CHP is mostly absent, and Lake County Employees as a group are absolutely intent on not producing 10% of the work they should be performing…

So yes, catch a few wine-country tourists out for a Sunday Ride, but remember:

The real “wine country” is Lake County, but I don’t recommend driving there, on an average day…

CHP should go back to ‘aerial patrols’. Spotters in an aircraft… lines on the pavement for tracking speed and half a dozen CHP ‘pursuit vehicles’ lined up waiting in an overpass down below.

Red Chevy pickup… 75 mph… yup. Write hundreds of tickets in a day.
After a bit, traffic slows down.

101 between Eureka and Fortuna… current ‘active’ speed limit is about 75 mph. Faster ones are doing 80+. Nobody cares (I guess).

If CHP started taking illegally loud motorcycles off the HWY, that would greatly reduce the amount of Motorcycles and the accidents that they are involved in.

Loud bikes causes the rider to be less aware of the world around them, and pisses people off who are sitting on their couch or at their desk and FORCED to listen to illegal activity.

Most vehicles are so well insulated, you don’t hear Motorcycles unless the motorcycle is right in front of them in plain view.

I’m sure a lot of brain dead riders are going to respond with the 4 dumbest words you can put together in the English language, “Loud bikes saves lifes”. It doesn’t, it just makes you an ASSHOLE doing illegal activity which also makes YOU responsible for any traffic collision that you are involved in.

Huh?

Mufflers are also banned, in Lake County, along with Fender Flares…

Anyone driving a Harley with no mufflers should go straight to jail, for the rest of the Holiday weekend…

Eh? What was that?

Might just get you shot…

Remember “Easy Rider”…

It’s “Lake County” where they got a town named after a mass murderer/rapist…

I agree, sometimes it is unbelievable how loud a bike can be. Set up a check point and test for loud bikes.

Big tough bikers will never take off their security mufflers.
They want everyone within 1/4 mile to hear them coming.

Gosh I wish they’d ticket a few drivers around here who don’t seem to realize their grey, black, brown vehicles are nearly invisible in the fog and rain…and there IS a law about headlights in those conditions, right? If you flash your headlights at them they think you’re saying Hi. No, it means, turn on your headlights, I can barely see you. Thanks…
