[UPDATE: Good News] Teen Trapped by Rising Tide in Mendocino

[Stock photo by Matt LaFever]

A dramatic rescue is underway this evening in Mendocino, where three people were initially trapped on a beach, pinned against a cliff by the rising tide.

Two of the trapped individuals have successfully ascended the cliff. However, a fifteen-year-old male remains stranded on the beach. Emergency crews are now deploying water rescue assets to extricate the teenager, who is at risk due to the rising waters.

Scanner traffic indicates the beach is located near the 1100 block of Lansing Street behind the Sea Rock Inn.

The incident, reported at 7:17 p.m., saw rescuers from Rock IC dispatched to the scene as rising tides posed an increasing threat.

According to the initial report around 7;17 p.m., the group attempted to climb up the cliff to escape the incoming tide.

The Incident Commander confirmed no parties are injured declining both ground and air ambulances.

UPDATE 8:05 p.m.: Rescue personnel on jet skis successfully saved the teen from the beach

How city folks learn about mother nature, the hard way, sometimes. Hope it ends with all being safe.

Very scary situation.

When I was a teenager, I was once climbing without ropes on some cliffs near the Missouri River.

I got into a situation where I had a lot of cliff to descend with not enough light to do it safely and losing light fast (totally my fault).

I had to take a lot of crazy risk cuz I couldn’t still be on that cliff after dark. Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good.

Getting an interview with the rescued party would be quintessentially appealing.

At a glance, ‘Good News, Teen Trapped By Rising Water’ is funny and little perplexing….

A common tourist error. I guess our schools don’t teach young invincible people about ocean tides. Don’t teach them how to write either.

Maybe if the ocean tides had a Facebook page or an Instagram the young people might know they exist?

Unfortunate wording of the headline. However, I am glad he is OK.

Nothing wrong with the headline – you missed the brackets around “Update: Good News”.

No, just a lapse in reading comprehension by the commenter I responded to and you.

“Ben Round” pointed out the potential for humor in the headline but the commenter I responded to described the headline as “unfortunate” – which was a failure of reading comprehension, not an attempt at humor.
