New Fire Discovered North of Hoopa with Potential Structure Threat

wildland fire feature wildfireCal Fire air attack aircraft spotted a new fire around 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, August 22 north of the Hoopa Reservation. The fire is reported to be off Cappell Road with estimated best access through Ranstead Road.

The pilot relayed that the fire appeared to be approximately 1/4 acre in size with a slow rate of spread. He did note that there were structures nearby that would be threatened if crews did not act quickly in spite of the slow rate of spread.

Cal Fire air attack A120 and a tanker have been assisting firefighting efforts on what is now called the Martin Fire. Resources have been called in including a water tender from Loleta Fire several hours south of the fire, highlighting the extent to which local resources have been stretched due to the plethora of lightning-started fires impacting the region.
