Joseph Larue, Known for Repeatedly Fleeing Law Enforcement, Released After Bail Was Set This Week

Joseph Larue, a former fugitive from justice wanted on animal cruelty charges in Oregon and multiple felony charges in Humboldt County, was released from the Humboldt County Jail on January 23, 2025, after posting bail. Larue, who had been held without bail since his November 3, 2024, arrest in Fortuna, was granted bail after a judge lifted the no-bail hold during a court hearing earlier that day for the following charges in California:

  • HS 11370.1(a): Possession of a controlled substance while armed.
  • PC 1551(a): Fugitive from justice.
  • PC 273.5(a): Infliction of corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant.
  • PC 273A(a): Willful cruelty to a child likely to produce great bodily harm or death.
  • PC 29800(a)(1): Felon in possession of a firearm.
  • PC 30305(a): Felon in possession of ammunition.
  • PC 496(a): Receiving stolen property.

Larue’s initial no-bail status was procedural, designed to keep him in custody until his court hearing. The judge’s decision to set bail made him eligible for release, and he posted the required amount to leave jail while his legal matters are pending even though he not only had fled Oregon on felony charges related to animal cruelty but had fled law enforcement in Humboldt County multiple times last fall after a domestic violence incident led to him being shot.

Larue, who operated Pawsitive K9 Solutions in Grants Pass, Oregon, was arrested after authorities found over a dozen malnourished dogs at his business, as well as numerous neglected animals at his residence in Selma, Oregon. Eventually, he was released on bail but never returned and a warrant was issued for him.

The intensive search of Larue in California began on October 15 of last year when a SWAT team from Eureka, aerial support, including a fixed-wing aircraft, drones, and later a CHP helicopter were all used in attempt to capture the injured man who had fled a home in Redway after a reported domestic abuse incident. He avoided law enforcement at that time.

On October 26, deputies from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office responded to a tip-off that Larue’s vehicle was seen in the Safeway parking lot on Harris Street in Eureka. Again, however, Larue fled on foot as deputies arrived, successfully evading capture.

Then on November 3, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department, assisted by the Fortuna Police Department, apprehended fugitive Joseph Larue at a residence near Newburg and Orchard in Fortuna after several weeks of evasion. Although Larue attempted to flee on foot at this time also, officers captured him.

He was arrested and incarcerated at the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on a no bail hold.

Humboldt County District Attorney Stacey Eads explained in an email sent to us on January 23, that Larue was arraigned this week and the judge removed the no bail hold. Eads told us, “Mr. Larue was arraigned on extradition documents yesterday afternoon on additional out of state warrants, for which, prior to his court appearance, he was held without bail.  However, in court the judge set bail on those matters at $85,000 causing the no bail hold to be lifted.  Subsequently, Mr. Larue posted bail for each of his pending matters.”

Duane Christian, Correctional Captain for the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, provided context for the process, explaining, “When someone is brought in on an out of state warrant their bail is set at No Bail until [they] go to court… At the time of their arraignment… the judge has the option of setting bail. If the judge sets bail in the case then the person is eligible for bail on that case like any other case even though it is an out of state warrant.”

Larue is wanted on multiple charges across state lines. In Oregon, he faces felony animal abuse charges stemming from a January 2024 investigation. The Josephine County Sheriff’s Department served a warrant on the Selma residence of the owners of Pawsitive K9 Solutions on September 26. “During the execution of that warrant, one horse and one rabbit were found deceased,” the report said. “In addition to the deceased animals, sixteen animals including another horse, multiple dogs, cats and chickens were located without food or water also living in poor conditions.”

Larue spent about two and a half months in the County Correctional facility between his arrest in November and being released on bail this week. He continues to face multiple charges in both Oregon and California.

WTF Judge? Oregon was going to come get him…he needs to be held accountable for the horrendous things he did to those poor animals!

If “Oregon was going to come get him” they had 2 1/2 months to do so – maybe they’re ok to have this slimy pos be California’s problem – but either way $85,000 bail is too little – but who paid the bond of $8,500 or posted the full amount in cash or real estate?

It was the judge’s decision to allow bail… in spite of him already known to be fleeing from felony charges. That’s what the WTF was about.

Unbelievable! This judge is wrong and this is why the criminals escalate their crimes. They will continue their behavior as long as there is nothing to stop them. He will commit more crimes so get ready.

And THIS is why nobody can trust any part of the injustice system. With this type of behavior by a “judge” and in so many cases with LEOs and DAs refusing to do any part of their job with integrity, it would likely save a lot of money to do away with the whole thing. I’ve had crimes committed against me by thugs, pastors, employers, LEOs, lawyers and others. The worst crimes were the ones by LEOs. As much as I was brought up to trust LEOs and the justice system, I find it impossible. The “system” is a failure at every turn.

I wonder what the judge’s motivation was to set a low bail for this jerk?

Are you fricking kidding me!!!! WTF people, or should I say judge? Our system is clearly broken when a wanted felon on fugitive from justice, animal cruelty (severe), abuse, gun and ammunition possession, etc. is allowed to post a measly bail and flee.

No way he is paying the full bail amount, so now a bounty hunter will have to go after him as well.

Unfortunately the majority of the money was for Oregon crimes and they are one of the four states that don’t pay bounty hunters.

Why is the judge not named anywhere in the articke?!! ” A judge” is all we get a few times. The judge needs to be named and then we can remove “this judge”. I’m sick of these judges making things easier for severe criminals especially those who torture animals!! That judge makes lots of money- OUR money- and they just make our world crappier…

Joseph Larue has two cases. His next court date is on 2/19/24. I have added details & updates to my Nov 6, 2024 post about those cases. Without knowing what case Ms. Eads is referring to or Kym asked about, i am not going to add to the confusion. Unless he was arraigned on a new case, I am not aware of any arraignment this week.
I don’t link to my blog on other sites and unless Kym asks or gives me permission, I won’t in this comment section. He had a preliminary hearing on 1/10/24 in one of his 2024 cases. People can google or search the Nov 6 post which has court records or not, if they want. There is too much information about his no bail hold and extradition & idenity hearing. Bail amounts were set last year to answer in one quick simple sentence. I have no reason to check his case before 2/19/24.

Kym,
Thanks for the post to today’s link but this is the one from November 6,2024 that has the court records, minutes and his two cases. This might help answer some questions, in addition to what you posted in the article above as well as help if you want to follow up. I always like to check with you because we all put in a lot of work finding out information.

Larue was booked into jail on November 3,2024. He had bail in his Humboldt case at booking but a no bail hold from Oregon. That changed at his first court hearing which was on 11/6/24. Retired Judge Ksenia Tsenin set bail amounts on 11/6/24. The court minutes are in the link I provided. Larue could have posted bail since that date if he had the money.

This is how we get a grand jury investigation. It is a pdf. Form and very easy to fill out. If enough of us complain we might get an investigation. https://humboldtgov.org/518/Civil-Grand-Jury-Forms

Cool he can continue to abuse animals and women and avoid his court dates both in OR and CA. A known flight risk. Thanks, incompetent f*cking judge. I would say unbelievable but truthfully it’s pretty par for the course for Humboldt.

Neck tat and eyebrow tat Alert!‼️ On a similar story: Ca woman arrested for animal neglect/abuse after 27 dead horses found plus animals with malnutrition etc. etc. Wonder if Ca’s Progressive law interpretation will let her out? Animal abusers are the worst and there is a special place reserved for them despite being let go.

We can blame the cops, the DAs, the judges, and even the politicians, but it all comes down to society.

We have groups like ACLU and many other groups that proclaim to protect the people’s rights, that work more for the criminal than the average citizen. The criminal mind uses the system to wear down and intimidate society thru “victimizing” themselves against the “unfair” society.

Society is to blame for allowing sympathy driven by “political correctness” and activistsim. The average citizen fails to voice their objections and vocal activists becomes the voice that drives politicians to pass laws based on the minority rather than the majority.

Complaining on blogs and leaving it up to our politicians to vote what they believe in, rather than what makes us safe is how we loose our freedoms and choices.

Speak up to make your fears heard, rather than being shouted down by special interest activists and media. Vote how you feel instead of how you are being told you should vote. Get rid of politicians that are not listening to the people they are suppose to represent, instead of special intetest, big money, and groups using hate, fear, and division tactics to silence the public.

Maybe then we can retain our civilization, respect, and morales. And then we can have safe and not have to play the blame game.

Guy should be under the jail, not released early from it. Who was the judge that allowed this monster out? We need to vote these easy on crime judges out. Like how does a felon with possession of firearm get bail? They are a danger to the community! It’s insane.

I’m only dropping in again to see if anyone has named the judge. I’m sick of this kind of crap and I suddenly have a little free time. I’ll start the damn petition to get this judge removed. Is that how it works? I think many of us might feel empowered to remove a sitting POS judge…we gotta clean house and that’s a great place to start

That is a good question Kym.
There were also hearings since then on his extradition waiver.
Once bail is set at arraignment, for another judge to change it, there has to be a legal reason. Why he was released recently could be due to many reasons.
One of your commenters also made an excellent point about contacting elected officials and changing laws to hold repeat offenders accountable. People could have showed up at Larue’s hearings, written letters to the DA. All the media can do is make the community aware but when people speak up, it can have an impact. It did with sexually violent predator Joshua Cooley.
The same commenters asking you questions can call or emal DA Eads. The public pays her salary. One can contact their Supervisor with concerns.
