Headwaters Grant Fund Accepting Applications for Economic Development Projects

If you have a great idea that could promote business growth or job creation in Humboldt County, consider applying for a Humboldt County Headwaters Fund grant.
Headwaters Grant Fund applications are available at gohumco.com/
HeadwatersGrantFund. Applications for the 2024-2025 grant round will be accepted Friday, Dec. 20 through Saturday, Feb.1, 2025, with awards anticipated to be announced in June 2025. There are $300,000 total funds available to be divided among selected projects with a maximum grant amount of $75,000.
Background
The Headwaters Grant Fund supports projects that benefit Humboldt County’s industries identified in the County of Humboldt’s Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) or contribute to the region’s competitive advantage. Preference is given to projects that maintain and increase the number of sustainable jobs paying near or above the median income, enhance the quality of life and promote healthy communities while protecting the natural environment.
The CEDS identifies the county’s priorities for future economic development. Target industries identified in the CEDS include:
- Diversified Healthcare
- Specialty Food, Flowers & Beverages
- Building & Systems Construction
- Investment Support Services
- Management and Innovation Services
- Niche Manufacturing
Major industries identified include:
- Forest Products
- Tourism
- Arts & Culture
- Alternative Agriculture (Cannabis)
Eligibility
Nonprofits and government agencies located within Humboldt County are eligible to apply and receive grant funding. Private businesses cannot receive grants directly but can partner with a nonprofit or government agency to apply.
