i traveled from Santa Rosa to Eureka Friday morning. i departed around 3:30am. 101 was foggy from Willits to Scotia. I kept the front windows down to stay alert. Very stressful trip.
☺️Glad you arrived safe.
Thank you! I’m still not 100% but alive.
I did the same only in reverse. Left Eureka at 6:15 am. It was foggy in some places that I had to slow down to 40mph.Stayed foggy all the way to Willits except for a couple of places. Don’t think I will do that trip again until the sun comes out.
My to miss the SR insanity worked, but…….
I once hit an animal, I think was an Elk while making that trip. I never saw it because of trick fog, but the damage to my square body Chevy could have only happened from an Elk, or a horse. Totalled my truck. The animal might have been dead nearby but I couldn’t see more than 30 or 40 feet the whole time I was there & neither could the tow truck driver who came.
This was near Shanrock ranch.
It’s no place to be in a hurry, but people do.
When I went through that stretch on Thursday, the newly resurfaced road had no lane or edge of road markings. And, that neighborhood is home to bear. Lots of reasons to slow down.
Let’s all be careful and keep our first responders bored.
It’s like where’s the road? I’m very surprised Caltrans doesn’t correct that.
That is Granites’ jobsite & their call.
Can’t paint it when it’s too cold or wet.
A few temporary reflectors would be very helpful though right.
The no edge of road markings make driving so difficult huh. Especially in fog.
Maybe they should paint the freaking lines and put the reflectors in through that entire section. Not even sure how that is legal. Should be the companies insurance covering all of the accidents within their zone. It’s damned near impossible to see anything through that section right now, especially at night, in the fog, or inclement weather.
Just do it Caltrans. Totally agree.
Can’t…it’s too cold and moist for painting & that is Granite construction in charge of it right now.
I was leaving Willits after a basketball tournament and got caught in this. It must have just happend as we were only about 15 vehicles back. We were stuck for about an hour. It wasn’t that foggy at that time
These smaller gas saving cars are deadly. It so common to have to be cut out of the vehicle. I watched a 90s Cadillac hit a Ltd almost head on at about 50. Both people got out and walked away.
When cars were cars and not transportation appliances. They’re not trendy, but driving a tank like that can absolutely save your life. I ought to know.
