Cynthia Bones, a committed advocate for educational equity, has three children attending Eureka City Schools, with one enrolled at Zane Middle School and two at Lafayette Elementary. Her commitment to the district is reflected in her service as a parent representative on both the Lafayette Elementary School Site Council and the Indian Education Parent Advisory Committee (PAC). Additionally, Bones has served as Chairperson of the Yurok Tribe Election Board and Vice Chairperson of its Enrollment Committee.
Reflecting on her appointment, Bones said, “I am honored to join the Board of Trustees. As a parent and advocate, I’m passionate about ensuring our students receive the education, tools, and social-emotional skills they need to thrive as adults. I also believe in the importance of offering multiple pathways for students after graduation, whether that’s through trades, college, or other career opportunities.”
Superintendent Gary Storts expressed his enthusiasm for Bones’ appointment, stating, “Cynthia’s leadership and advocacy for students and families have long been evident in her involvement with the district. She has a clear passion for supporting the success of all students, and we are thrilled to welcome her to the Board.”
Board President Susan Johnson echoed this sentiment, noting, “Cynthia brings a wealth of experience both from her community involvement and her work within Eureka City Schools. Her unique perspective as a parent and leader in the Yurok Tribe will add invaluable insights as we continue working toward creating opportunities for every student in the district.”
In addition to her focus on student success, Bones has emphasized the importance of transparency and communication within the district. “I want to ensure that the Board remains accessible and open to the concerns of the community,” Bones said. “It’s important that families feel supported and understand the processes available to them when they need guidance.”
