[Update 3:52 a.m.] Wildfire Starts in Southeastern Humboldt, Emergency Crews on Scene

Wildland fireA wildfire broke out around 12:44 a.m. near the intersection of Island Mountain Road and E Road, also known as Chamise Loop Road. According to the Palo Verde Fire Department, emergency crews are actively responding to the wildland fire.

The department’s Facebook post warned, “Wildland Fire in progress in the woods at Island Mountain Road and E Road (also known as [Chemise] Loop Road). Emergency vehicles on scene and en route. Please stay out of the area for emergency vehicles to access.”

Residents in the surrounding area have reported the smell of smoke.

Update 3:52 a.m.: Shared with us from our sister news site KMUD: CalFire and Palo Verde Volunteer Fire are on scene working to contain the incident. According to neighbors near the fire, the glow from the fire is dissipating and smoke is less heavy, indicating the crews are making good progress.

Siren woke me up at 1:28am, but I saw no reports of fire or anything on Watch Duty, so I assumed a medical emergency.

Thank you, Kym for posting this. Right now, the reduction of glow and smoke is our only update. Not sure why the Watch Duty didn’t go off for the other reader. I do know it went off for others. As for our little community. We rock! Even in the small hours of the morning, the alarm went out and the community went to work. Thanks everyone for all the support.

Since I wrote this post over an hour ago, I have made a trip up to the firehouse. I followed a Cal Fire truck returning to town, and saw no smoke along the way. Thanks to everyone.
