PG&E Helps Battle Food Insecurity with Contributions to Local Food Banks, Meal Distribution Organizations
This is a press release from Pacific Gas and Electric Company:
The PG&E Corporation Foundation (The PG&E Foundation) is providing $1.3 million to local food banks, tribal food banks and senior meal programs to help feed individuals and families struggling with food insecurity.
The contribution is the equivalent of approximately 2.67 million meals for individuals and families in need. The funding will support 52 food distribution organizations representing 45 counties in Pacific Gas and Electric Company’s (PG&E) service area.
The contribution comes during Hunger Action Month, a nationwide effort to raise awareness about hunger in America and inspire action to combat it. According to the California Association of Food Banks, while California produces nearly half of the nation’s fruits and vegetables, on average, one in five residents do not know where their next meal will come from. Communities of color face even higher levels of hunger.
“PG&E has been a consistent major supporter of Community Action’s North State Food Bank for the last half decade. Through their generous support the North State Food Bank has increased its cold storage capacity and supply of fresh and stable foods that are distributed throughout our 8,000 square-mile service region. Their support has been great towards increasing the food bank’s purchasing power and for the hundreds of families who receive food, creating a greater collaborative impact for our communities,” said Timothy Hawkins, CEO, Community Action of Butte County.
“We’re grateful for our ongoing partnership with food banks and meal distribution organizations that provide a critical safety net to families struggling to make ends meet. These local food support organizations fulfill a critical role in ensuring individuals and families are fed, can lead a healthy life and reach their full potential,” said Carla Peterman, Executive Vice President, Corporate Affairs, PG&E Corporation and Chari of The PG&E Corporation Foundation Board.
Grant amounts consider county poverty and unemployment levels, using the California Department of Social Services’ formula, to promote equity among counties with higher need.

Hey, when I am hungry, I will ask for a “donation” from PG&E…
I’m pretty much always in the dark anyway, but Summer and Winter, we pay and don’t use any more than we need to…
How about a “Senior Rate” guys?
More homeless than ever, and never more money given…
$1.3 million for a state containing 40,000,000…
Nice. Thanks.
Remember:
“Power outages can occur at any time”, and frequently do.
Hoopa has more reliable service than Lake County.
Lake County sets a low bar for a great many things.
There’s a lot of people moving here from the Peninsula, Central CA, Santa Rosa, Connecticut and just all over, because it’s cheap, except for the fire insurance…
If you want to live in Lake County, be sure you have a “spare home” somewhere else…
Most of my neighbors are absent, and it’s very quiet…
Nice job. Raise our rates so you can try to make it look like you care!!!! Sad company.
PG and E definitely has a PR problem, and though this funding looks good on paper, it’s basically a case of robbing Peter to pay Paul.
Next year, the 24 dollar fixed minimum monthly charge kicks in, and I’m sure PG and E will have more our money to give to PR projects.
Screw em. They couldn’t care less. They burned people alive due to their greedy negligence and the rest of us are paying for it. Now, they are donating what amounts to pennies of their corporate profits to some some food banks and wants some good press? No, that ship has sailed. There’s a private place in hell for the monsters that run this company that should be declared a corporate monopoly.
Yes. They burned people alive. And when we got angry about that they said they would pay for upgrades to prevent it happening again-only THEY didn’t pay they made US pay for all the upgrades by astronomically raising our electrical rates to be the highest in the entire country!!! I’m upset that more people are not paying attention and extremely upset about this scam. They donate OUR money to political campaigns where that politician then appoints members of the public board who are supposed to be looking out for the public. This board that approves every single rate hike that PG&E can come up with…. If this is not the definition of corruption then I don’t know what it is-we should be calling it out and arresting all the participants in this scandalous outrage. But… They spread enough of OUR money around to buy off everybody who should be protecting our rights!! Including the corporate media….
AGAIN- This is NOR PG&E contributing anything!! This is OUR money being contributed after they extorted it from us. They are increasing electrical rates AGAIN! And they take a tiny bit of the increased profits they extort from us and throw it back into the community and then write a press release about how wonderful they are… It is truly disgusting. Please everybody take note of this scam/ propaganda and do not fall for it… That is YOUR money being donated without your consent or credit being given…
Another feeeeel good announcement from PG&E. You know what this 1s don’t you? Pillow talk before they screw you with yet another rate hike. The more sweet talk, the higher the rate hike.
The real ‘SCAM’ started about 35 years ago (or so). PG&E was a ‘quality’ entity to work for… ‘oh you work for PG&E’… that was a good lifetime job.
— then —
Big money split the company
Yup. ‘Investors’ took the money and pretty much ‘disappeared’.
Left the distribution side (PG&E)… in a position where they knew it would fail.
And fail, it did.
— then —
State government stepped in and finished the job.
We are still paying the price.
How about ending the gouging of energy prices, PG&E? Lots of folks I know are having to choose between food and PG&E bills even with the heater turned off 24/7.
Maybe if PG and E wasn’t raking everyone over the coals for electricity to pay for their poor management of infrastructure, we would be a le
to afford to eat. CPUC and PG and E are completely corrupt. They aren’t fooling anyone by donating our money to food banks. They also give our money away to politicians who will
vote in favor of their ever increasing rates.
