Way to go! Great job Ferndale PD. So many times these pursuits end up in a crash, the vehicles outrun LE and are never seen again, or who the driver was can’t be proven. Kudos to all involved without injury to the public.

I still disagree with high speed chases. This moron driver came close to crashing into someone on the Ferndale Bridge and put others into mortal danger too- yet wasn’t caught by the law. Hey- aren’t we so grateful this didn’t end in a crash? Now the dumbass has a few charges. I hope the felony one sticks and he serves real time as an adult. Anyone want to make book that he gets his hand slapped?

Hrmm so just because someone speeds and out runs law enforcement you think they placed other lives in danger , is that because you feel that this person might not be trained in evasive driving and or high speed driving ? Or is it that you happen to know that what he was driving was not properly set up to handle the road conditions at the rate at which he drove ? How do you know that it was bot the law enforcement officer who lacked training for such speeds on such roads there by it would be the law enforcement officer who was placing other lives in danger . There are a lot of assumptions in your statement but very little to support such statements of fact other than your own personal belief on the subject yet there is nothing supporting that belief as far as statements

From the original story:
“The pursuit…has already seen the fleeing driver pass four vehicles on the left, narrowly avoiding collisions…the driver almost hit another vehicle head-on on Fernbridge.”

Almost is subjective and passing hardly places another’s life at risk No matter which side they are passed on . Again subjective and giving a press release credit as fact when it is the agency who is attempting to convict a person who is supposed to be viewed as innocent until tried so again what knowledge do you or anyone else have that his driving was not extremely skilled driving in that he was able to make those passes while out running the local gastopo and do it all without causing anyone to be harmed or even causing a other to wreck their own transportation.
I remember a time when i had just returned from a tour overseas in germany , autobahns etc . I was driving home from work in kansas on a 4 lane back road i could see for miles as the road had no curves and besides the 1 lone sheriff that was literally hiding behind a tree there was no one else on the road , now i was not seeing this and thinking ok open it up and get there , no i was just driving not paying attention to the 50 mph posted speed limit which after autobahns seems as if you are hardly moving but my point is i was clocked at 80 mph in a posted 50 mph zone now to those back road sheriffs 50mph was at the outer limit of a drivers skill set according to the sheriff that i was stopped by informed me . He wasnt concerned that i was breaking the law so much as he was greatly concerned for my safety and that of the other traveling public , now being the smart ass i was and still am to a certain point i asked him what other traveling public because as of that moment that officer and myself had yet to be passed by either oncoming traffic or traffic in our direction of travel and that must have been a good 30 minutes after i pulled over . Well he kind of looked at me and said dont you go getting smart with me stay here and i will be back with your ticket , he returned 20 or so minutes latter and handed me a 1200 dollar ticket and wished to preach at me so more about how law enforcement had the proper training to operate various vehicals in all sorts of conditions and speeds and that i could never teach that level of training without attending law enforcement training . Well i had had enough as i took in his 3 pistol belts he had to hook together to get a belt to hold his sidearm onto what i think he thought was his hip but was painfully clear to me was his 3 fold of fat hanging off of his gut . I said look here i handed him my international drivers license my s license for track racing as well as my ddform 348 which i just happened to have siting on my seat next to me . A ddform 348 is a list of every thing i had had driving on that could be driven in the army . I said see this here says i vast amount of training more than you do , and i do not like being lied to officer , your whole premiss was about safety yet you do not give a single dam about mine or any other drivers safety officer because we know overweight people have a massively higher risk of heart attack and stroke yet you dont seem to have a problem using a can of lard to wedge yourself into that squad car between the wheel and the seat placing every little kid that might be playing along some road you just so happen to be driving down when you have your heart attack only thing is officer you are in a speeding bullet but i am certain your training covered how to self administer cpr while suffering a heart attack while you are speeding down a road to catch someone else speeding down a road who just might be qualified to handle road and traffic conditions at speeds better than you will ever be . With that out of the way i took the ticket paid my 1200 dollar tax to drive at whatever speed i wish and wen on about my life and to this day i view speed limits as the limit at which you can drive for free anything faster if they catch you you have to pay the tax which is all most law enforcement officers are anymore anyways the tax man

I’ve paid the “speed tax” and the “California stop tax” but I don’t whine about it.

You’re obviously bitter about your past encounters with law enforcement and will always or nearly always side with the lawbreakers.

But your arguments here ignore the facts and are devoid of logic.

A commenter on the original story described nearly being crashed into and having to take evasive action.

Again nearly being is again subjective and while i understand the majority of people tend to believe what they read as fact , the truth is press releases are written by public relations professionals who are charged with sugar coating and controlling the publics option of a org or company . And most people have a hard time determining a press release from factual statements . In this country people are presumed innocent , supposedly yet few seem to be able to maintain a state of open mindedness required to make this a true reality with public relations people studying advertising tatics and the like it is easy to see how since people are so hammered by ad s from the time they awake till the time they fall asleep how most can no longer tell the difference . And despite my personal interactions with law enforcement , which you couldnt be farther from the truth about , i can tell you they are not your friends .

I’m not sure about that, it appears to be one of the longest pairs of run on sentences I’ve ever seen. He gives off the “no one should own guns” and “there should be no cops” vibe. Maybe the hug police enactment should go into effect before California falls into the ocean. That’ll fix it.

Blah, blah blah. There are good cops and bad cops as with any profession on the planet. You can tell me nothing about who ate my friends. Get over yourself.

Let me share my good cop story. My car broke down main st garberville. Me and a friend start pushing it the 2 blocks to my place cutting thru the alley beside the bar. A cop drives by I can tell by the look on his face he thinks we are leaving the bar. Sure enough , once we cleared that up he told us to hop in and gave us a push home.

“Innocent until proven guilty” is a legal concept that applies in court and to which every juror is bound – but outside of court I’m feee to form my own opinions on whether I think someone’s guilty or not – and if cops have conclusively identified the driver then I say he’s guilty.

Which means nothing more than it’s my opinion – he’ll get his presumption of innocence and his day in court.

But if they had trials in juvenile court he’d be wishing you were on the jury.

didn’t have time to read the whole post, sorry, but people get hurt/killed in unsafe passing situations all the time.

High speed chase after a lunatic driver who has no concern at all about anyone else on the road makes himself a dangerous weapon. Throw the book at this moron. Don’t care his age. Cops need to cool it- bad track record with this shit.

Well I’m sure he will lose his license, or be left with half a point. Could be a year in jail. Probably worse.

Anti didn’t agree with the first story either.

The kid wasn’t doing anything wrong.

The fact he didn’t wreck or kill anyone is proof he was driving within his capabilities -he was just in a hurry, that’s all.

It’s not his fault the other drivers were poking along and freaked out when he was passing crazy and nearly went head on – people need to lighten up and remember they were young once too!

And because he was in a hurry he didn’t have time to stop and explain it to the cop.

Anti is still burning with resentment over the close minded SOB of a cop who cited him for 80 in a 50 when he was a kid.

Two questions: Why isn’t he charged with grand theft auto? And if the car is his/family member why so long to track him down?

All car keys that aren’t being used by the registered owner of the vehicle should be required to be locked in a safe. That’s just a common sense car safety law that could be enacted to prevent car violence and needless deaths and injuries.

And what about the parents? They raised this 17 year old. They have a responsibility. Curriculum at Eighth grade thru High School should require at least four years of parenting skills. You don’t pass you don’t graduate. You don’t graduate you have on your resume and employment application you never passed parenting classes. Young parents often have NO IDEA how to raise a child. And if a child gets into legal trouble the parents HAVE to attend parenting classes. Parents are as guilty as what their children’s laws they violate.
