Bayside Presentation about the Sanctuary Garden: Nurturing Safety & Community for Migrants

This is a press release from Bayside Corners:

Brenda Perez

On Thursday, September 26th at 5:30PM, Brenda Perez, Executive Director of Centro del Pueblo, will lead the third of four 2024 presentations of the “Leading Lights Presentation Series” offered at the Bayside Temperance Hall.  The quarterly series features visionary action for social change in Humboldt County.

Ms. Perez will present the Sanctuary Garden vision, a peaceful and safe haven for the migrant community in the U.S. She’ll address unique challenges and innovative solutions to keep this space violence-free and how the Sanctuary Garden provides not only physical safety but also emotional and community support, highlighting its crucial role in empowering and integrating migrants into society. This presentation is a journey of the collective efforts and personal stories that make the Sanctuary Garden a model of compassion and community cohesion.

$10 is requested at the door to support Centro del Pueblo’s work and ongoing repairs to improve the Bayside Temperance Hall as a community venue. To learn more, email [email protected] .

An information table about upcoming training to prepare yourselves and your community for emergencies and disasters will be provided. With increasing frequency and severity of extreme weather events, learning how neighbors can help each other is essential.

With major road and roundabout construction in Bayside, the Grange Hall next door has offered convenient parking space for this event at the Temperance Hall, 1928 Old Arcata Rd., the corner of Jacoby Creek and Old Arcata Roads.

Mark Thursday, November 14th at 5:30PM on your calendar for the fourth and final presentation in 2024: “Rethinking the Movement: Critical Environmental Justice on the North Coast.” What do race, class, gender and economics have to do with the environment? Join the Northcoast Environmental Center staff to discuss interconnected struggles, dismantling/ rebuilding systems, and restoring our relationship to the planet.

Visionary change for humboldt. That would be nice. If you have ever lived anywhere else. Then you know how closed minded and racist this area can be. If you lived here your whole life it probably isn’t very apparent. I moved in 7th grade and was a minority in my school. 10 percent of the school was white and I’m glad they accepted me into their community. And I an ashamed that the community I live in is less accepting

This is great!
I’m tired of always hearing about how blacks and Italians have it so bad, that’s good old boy stuff!
Let’s move on to considering the issues of migrants.
after all, the only constant is change!
The world is one great economy United by the need for money!
Imagine!
The only race is the human race, but then celebrate diversity too, because there are many cultures and our diversity is what connects us and different languages bond us in nuanced watercolor interpretation and head scratching poetry!

I’m guessing this is a good place to make a meth or fenty connection?
