[UPDATE 7:58 p.m.: Contained] Fire Breaks Out Near Mill Creek in Northeastern Humboldt

A new fire has broken out in northeastern Humboldt County north of Hoopa, with the Hoopa Fire Department reporting that their Wildland Fire team responded to the blaze at approximately 3:40 p.m. today. The fire, located two miles up Mill Creek, is currently estimated to be between 2-3 acres in size and is spreading at a moderate rate through dense timber and brush.

In a social media post, the Hoopa Fire Department stated that helicopters and air tankers are en route to the scene, and multiple resources have been ordered to assist in controlling the situation. Flight Radar has shown at least three tankers responding to the incident.

UPDATE 7:58 p.m.: According to Hoopa Fire Department,

The fire has currently burned 15 acres, but we’re pleased to report that fire is contained as of now. Firefighters have established hose lays and three crews are actively constructing hand lines to ensure the fire remains under control.

I watched the spotter plane flying that way around 3PM. Thanks to all for controlling the fire so quickly.
