California created nearly one in five of the nation’s new jobs

rising graph increase

Press release from the Office of Governor Gavin Newsom:

California’s job expansion has continued into its 51st month, with Governor Gavin Newsom announcing that the state created 21,100 new jobs in July. Fast food jobs also continued to rise, exceeding 750,000 jobs for the first time in California history.

“Our steady, consistent job growth in recent months highlights the strength of California’s economy – still the 5th largest in the entire world. Just this year, the state has created 126,500 jobs – solid growth by any measure.”

Governor Gavin Newsom

With July’s data, California has now created 284,400 new jobs within the past 12 months, which was a 1.6 percent increase. The state’s unemployment rate held steady at 5.2 percent. Four of the state’s eleven industry sectors gained jobs last month.

California’s economy by the numbers

California is home to the most Fortune 500 companies – beating out Texas, Florida, and all other states. Travel spending reached an all-time high of $150.4 billion. Plus, leading the next generation, California is home to 35 of the world’s 50 leading AI companies, high-impact research and education institutions, and a quarter of the technology’s patents and conference papers. California has one of the most equitable tax systems in the entire country, and is #1 in the nation for new business starts, #1 for access to venture capital funding, #1 for manufacturing, #1 for high-tech, and #1 for agriculture.

What’s the per capita job creation vs other states?

What’s the wage of these jobs vs cost of living vs other states?

Three-Quarters of a MILLION “Fast Food Jobs?”

“Cloudkitchens” included?

California has a steady influx of the indentured servant class, but it’s pretty sad how many high paid jobs are being lost…

We do have a surfeit of overpaid and underworked folks…

Look for work in a “grant-funded agency”, or straight up “government jobs”, because then you will get a pension…

Everyone else, bust your ass for 40 years and beyond, cause it isn’t cheap to live in CA…

Remember, there’s always farm work…

To be clear, no one “gets” a government pension.Usually a government employee contributes to a pension plan and typically the government makes a contribution as well. As in the government employee takes money from their paychecks and puts it towards their pension. This is true for many companies, the employer will make a contribution to an employee’s retirement plan-usually a 401k retirement account- when the employee does. Sometimes it’s a matching amount, sometimes not. The original idea of a pension plan was driven by union membership, in exchange for accepting lower wages – this is true for public school teachers, and public school employees such as custodians, bus drivers, etc. Certainly true for many other public employees like road crew workers, public safety workers etc.

Pensions were a common benefit of employment until the late 1970s-1980s when deregulation championed by Ronald Reagan and the Republican Party encouraged companies to offer instead IRAs and 401ks. Those plans reduced the corporate contribution, put the burden of wise investment on the employee rather than the company, and allowed the company to eliminate or reduce other retirement benefits, such as healthcare. More Reagan era deregulation of mergers and acquisitions meant that companies like PALCO, that had fully funded pension plans, were subject to corporate raiders (like Hurwitz) who could literally leverage the value of the pension savings as collateral for a hostile takeover, takeover the company and then use the fully funded pension plan for something else entirely. Another reason for companies to stop offering pensions.

Many public sector jobs that offer pensions have minimum qualifications. In the case of a teacher, that is 5 years of university level education, and competency in the subject area. Teachers without a degree usually have significant professional experience directly relevant to their instruction. Farm work generally has no minimum qualifications required. It’s manual labor. Spending a summer picking cotton and tomatoes and tobacco, working in fast food restaurants, waitressing and bartending all convinced me that a university degree was worthwhile.

Government employees put in about 1/3 of the pension contribution, while the government- aka Taxpayers contribute 2/3 of the pension. Nothing is government funded, it is all taxpayer funded

I heartily agree that suffering through a university education will usually pay off, and the structure of a Government Pension always eluded me, but one of my jobs was with the University of California, which I was stupid enough to separate from… I also later worked for Contra Costa County, and moved on from that one too…

I funded my own pension, and saved my own money while paying my own bills, and now I have to take RMD’s on my IRA, which will be federally taxed at a high rate with my incredibly deflated account…

You can’t win this game, except through death or frugality, but being a “Public Employee” just never worked for me, as I prefer working on my own terms…

When you are 25, you can’t fathom being in your seventies, but you will remember all the mistakes you made…

What I love about Pensions is the number of people who get State AND Federal Pensions, and guys like Jerry Brown who receive several…

Taxpayers pay, and some of the folks with County Jobs are pretty low end, but they are all working towards the day they will get their PERS…

And yet we’re still in a huge financial hole. How many jobs left the state? Politicians, what good are they. None that I can see. Can we try trained monkeys for four years. Compare the results? I bet no difference.

German shepherds and Belgian malinois would be better than monkeys. They are smart as hell, wake up happy everyday, don’t lie, give everyone a chance if you let them have a sniff of the hand, and don’t take shite from dickheads like politicians and criminals.

California Added Only 5,400 Private-Sector Jobs Since 2022

Try again. This Bloomberg article is completely based on a report from the Hoover Institute, a think tank aligned with Project 2025, the Republican Party and the Heritage Foundation.

These are the same people who spearheaded the deregulation of the late 1970s-80s, digging the holes we find ourselves in today. Not just deregulation either. The Hoover Institute in particular is responsible for the corporate trend in using layoffs to make their balance sheets look better to investors, rather than improving productivity, streamlining production processes, or designing a better widget. Hoover economists promoted the out-sourcing that lead to the loss of our manufacturing base.

Ok then prove me wrong, where are your numbers? “I don’t like the source” is not a good argument

“Ohanian used data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics to calculate changes in the private-sector employment by subtracting government jobs from the total in the state. Since the start of 2022, he found that practically all job growth in California came from the government.”

The source is totally biased is an excellent argument. Means you can disregard their “results” Like fox news, anything they say is meaningless. Infotainment, not news.

As of August 6, 2024, 1,040 fast food restaurants in California have permanently closed since April 1, 2024, according to gosnappy.

Maybe the cannabis workers are all have jobs now.

There must be thousands of people working in those few restaurants that are left.

Sigh…

Everytime that Newsom says something I feel my leg being pulled. You would think with as many jobs that California has that the economy would be better. Remember when Newsom was bragging about our great surplus in the budget? I wish that I had his enthusiasm.

Hmm…but about 80% of the jobs increase in the country was due to government hiring. So is this similar for California – that the great majority of this ” new” employment was created by hiring government workers…. who then feed off our tax money? Because IMO we are already overburdened with taxes and the people who are feeding off of our taxes. I keep watching them getting these paid holidays and stipends and benefit packages and pensions and boy do I feel stupid for actually working and working in the private sector! But then again I have too much pride to take some lame government job, chatter around the coffee pot and take home a guaranteed plunder from the pockets of taxpaying working class people. Hey but that’s just me!….I guess….

Does that include those that trump called suckers for dying in service to their country? Those are government workers. Having served in Viet Nam I am appalled that a clown that diminishes the status of the Congressional Medal of Honor and doesn’t like U.S. prisoners of war is even be considered for the job of commander and chief. There is a contagion loose in this country.

‘California Goes From Top To Bottom In Job Growth Thanks to AB-5

MOUNTAINTOPTIMES
MAR 29, 2024

“The formerly “Golden State” of California lost 3,400 jobs and unemployment rate jumped to the highest in the nation at 5.3% in February.

California employment peaked at 17.7 million nonfarm jobs in February 2020, then was hammered by a national high 15.5% pandemic crash. US and California employment bounced back to pre-pandemic levels by June 2022, but California has since been growing a half the national rate.”

Nope…

You’ve Ben listening to too damn much Snopes, etc…

Think for yourself…

She said that she was refered to as being among “college kids” when she was 18-24 and in school.

She couldn’t have been referring to herself, as she was in her very late 40’s at the time…

48 or 49…

So she was talking, as acting AG, no less, about college kids, CURRENTLY, at the time, 18-24, and not herself, an, because “they”, not “we” are “stupid”, and how, “we”, (Her and Doug…???), “put them in dormitories that have resident assistants”…

Did she (and someone else), put herself into a “dormitory”, that had “Resident Assistants”, Melonopsin…???

Nope.

Think again…

But, at the time of her “They are STUPID” speech, (05/08/2014), she had just somewhat recently, been introduced to Doug Emhoff, (2013) and, by extension, to his kids, Emma and Cole…

But Doug and Kamala wouldn’t be married for another 3 1/2 months…

Cole was 19, at the time, and was in his first year of at Colorado College…

So, there you have it…

Kamala was definitely in the picture during Cole’s first year in college, starting in 2013…

I doubt that they got along, and even if they did, there’s no to way that Kamala respected Cole Emhoff…

Because…

Directly, or indirectly, she was referring to Cole Emhoff, her, let’s say, Fiance’s
Son, his eldest child…

When she said, WHAT DO “WE” KNOW ABOUT THEM….

…THEY ARE STUPID….

Real nice, isn’t she…???

Yuuuuck…!!!

Baaarfff..!!!

Why was she referring to herself so snobbishly, as “we”…???

That’s what Queens do,not
lowly A.G.’s

Not snopes. Reuters.

Fact Check: Clip of Harris calling young people ‘stupid’ lacks context
https://www.reuters.com/fact-check/clip-harris-calling-young-people-stupid-lacks-context-2024-07-26/

“And it’s a specific phase of life, remember, age is more than a chronological fact. What else do we know about this population, 18-24? They are stupid. That is why we put them in dormitories and they have a resident assistant. They make really bad decisions!”

The full video shows Harris talking about how “Back on Track,” a program aimed at reducing recidivism among young people, can help those arrested on low-level charges by having charges dismissed after completing the program

The wider quote before the snippet shared on social media shows Harris saying: “When I was at Howard University and we were in college, we were 18-24 and you know what we were called? College kids. But when you turn 18 and you’re in the system, you are considered an adult, period.”

I know you are old enough to relate, yes?

Then just what is your intent when taking something she said out-of-context, to lie and say she is calling all 18-21 year-olds stupid? Is that honest? If that is your intent, I don’t think you want to be that way. Give 18-24 year-olds more credit if you think you can fool them so easily.

Reuters… Falls under, “etc”…

And if you are gonna quote me and accuse me of lying, don’t you think that you should quote me accurately…???

Misquoting someone is a bit like lying, in and of itself…

………….

“What else do we know about this population, 18-24? They are stupid.”

…………………

Which 18-24 year olds, is she leaving out…???

Sounds to me like she is including all of them… … She makes no exceptions…

Lying is not telling “the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth”. Taking a quote out of context is not telling the whole truth, i.e., lying. For what purpose? To do harm. I don’t think you want to be that way.

Last year, the increase was reported as 385,000, but as it turns out, it was really only 50,000…

This year they are saying it’s 125,000, so maybe the revised number is going to be more like 17,000…???
