feature IconAre you someone who wants to make a positive change in your community? The Secure Rural Schools (SRS) Resource Advisory Committee (RAC) of Del Norte County, CA is seeking new members. People of all ethnicities, races, gender, disability status, and age are encouraged to apply.

What is Secure Rural Schools (SRS)?

Created in 2000, the SRS program provides critical funding for schools, roads, and other municipal services to over 700 counties across the U.S. and Puerto Rico that goes toward roads, schools, and other municipal services. Payments are divided into 3 categories:

  •   Title I: Roads and Schools
  •   Title II: Projects on Federal Lands
  •   Title III: County Projects

What is RAC?

Resource Advisory Committees (RAC) advise the Forest Service on which projects are worthy of funding for the benefit of National Forest land and local communities. Members propose and vote on Title II projects. Title II project funds may be used for projects that have broad-based support and with objectives that include:

  • Road, trail, and infrastructure maintenance or obliteration
  • Soil productivity improvement
  • Forest ecosystem health improvements
  • Watershed restoration and maintenance
  • Wildlife and fish habitat restoration, maintenance, and improvement

RAC Term Details

Each county’s RAC is composed of 9-15 members of the public who represent diverse interests related to public land management. Members serve a term of four years, with the possibility of a second term for a max of 8 years. RACs meet about every 1 to 2 months.
