Elk Calves Delighting Visitors in Our Parks Right Now

With the arrival of summer, the elk herds of Redwood National and State Parks are welcoming new life. These sweet spotted elk calves are a delightful sight, and visitors have the chance to see them along Davison Road or near the Berry Glen Trail among other places.California State Parks North Coast Redwoods recently shared some charming photos of these adorable calves on their Facebook page. For those eager to catch a glimpse, remember to maintain a safe distance from the elk. A simple trick: fully extend your arm with a thumbs up. If the elk isn’t completely covered by your thumb, it’s time to back up.

“Mama elk and mama bears certainly have one thing in common, in that they will protect their offspring from anything they deem a threat,” the post reminds us.
