Hay Bales Scattered on Hwy 20 After Crash, Road Closure Requested
According to the CHP Traffic Incident Information Page, the collision occurred when a big rig carrying hay lost control and crashed into oncoming traffic, sending hay bales across the roadway. The initial collision involving a 53-foot big rig losing its load and overturning has resulted in a secondary traffic collision. Emergency responders are on the scene and have requested two tow trucks to assist with clearing the vehicles involved. One vehicle was reported to be 50 to 75 feet down an embankment, with its occupant suffering head and shoulder injuries. The injured party is reportedly bleeding from the head and experiencing shoulder pain.
Debris from the accident is scattered across a dangerous curve, and, according to the CHP page, eastbound traffic is blocked but the westbound lane is open.
As of 6:23 p.m., efforts to clear the roadway and assist the injured are ongoing. Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.
The roadway is expected to be closed until 7:15 p.m. so the medical helicopter can land.
Motorists should continue to avoid the area as road closures and emergency operations are underway. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
