Press release from CAL FIRE Shasta-Trinity Unit:

The CAL FIRE Shasta Trinity Unit has postponed several Vegetation Management Projects (VMP) for the week of Tuesday, June 18, 2024, through Thursday, June 20, 2024.

What to Expect:

Due to the current weather conditions, statewide fire activity, and resource drawdown, CAL FIRE Shasta-Trinity Unit has decided to postpone the planned projects. The safety of our community and the efficient allocation of resources are our top priorities. The adverse weather conditions and ongoing fire activity across the state have significantly impacted our ability to carry out the project safely and effectively at this time.

Postponed Project Locations:

• Ross Ranch, north Old Oregon Trail Tuesday, June 18, 2024, 2:00 p.m.

• Gore Ranch, west of Westwood Village Hwy 273, Wednesday, June 19, 2024, 9:00 a.m.

• Swede Creek Ranch, southwest of Oak Run proper, Thursday, June 20, 2024, 10:00 a.m.

VMP Future Project Details

The project will be separated into manageable sections that will be burned when climate conditions are optimal, ensuring control, limiting escape, and minimizing poor air quality. In the event of adverse weather, or other fire activity indicating the project cannot be conducted safely, the project will be rescheduled. This VMP project aims to reduce non-native grasses and brush, dead and down trees, enhance grazing habitat for livestock and wildlife, and improve the watershed. This project reduces fire hazards and risks by creating a break in horizontal and vertical fuel continuity that can modify future wildfire behavior and improve community protection.

Strategic Efforts

This VMP project was planned as part of broader strategic efforts to protect the local community and nearby natural resources. Plans are based on input from the community and local stakeholders and involve collaboration with various partners throughout the project. This project contributes to significant ongoing work statewide and brings California closer to meeting or exceeding state fuels reduction goals outlined in the California Fire Plan and the California Wildfire and Forest Resilience Action Plan. It might be a good idea to cancel those VMP burns until October.

‘Supposed’ to be little wind today… and the rest of the week.
Firemen had probably been called to other fires though.
