Cal Poly Humboldt’s Northern California Small Business Development Center Launches ProBiz Program
Press release from Cal Poly Humboldt:
Cal Poly Humboldt’s Northern California Small Business Development Center (NorCal SBDC) is excited to announce the launch of the “ProBiz” program, a collaborative effort with the California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce and the California Chamber of Commerce (CalChamber).
The groundbreaking initiative aims to bridge the gap in business procurement by offering comprehensive support to help small businesses acquire procurement contracts in both the public and private sectors.”ProBiz is a needed and necessary solution for businesses of all sizes. That is why we are proud to partner in this pilot program and hope to see it expand statewide,” says Jennifer Barrera, CEO of the CalChamber. The ProBiz program, which will provide virtual training, in-person supplier diversity events, and free one-on-one technical advising, is designed to simplify the contracting process and create a more inclusive marketplace for businesses of all sizes.
The program’s launch comes at a crucial time, following the recent passage of Assembly Bill 2019, Equity in State Procurement, highlighting the need for accessible procurement solutions.
“On the heels of the passage of Assembly Bill 2019, this program provides a much-needed marketplace solution for entrepreneurs to grow and expand their business,” says Kristin Johnson, regional director of Norcal SBDC.
The ProBiz program is expected to be particularly beneficial for minority-owned businesses, which often face significant challenges in securing procurement contracts. “Minority-business owners typically struggle the most in finding and acquiring procurement contracts. ProBiz will be especially helpful for those business owners who want to grow their business,” says Julian Canete, CEO of the California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce.
The announcement of the ProBiz program during California’s Small Business Month in May underscores the importance of providing procurement access to every business in the state. This pilot project will begin in Northern California with the goal of expanding to other SBDC regions across the state later this year.

Cal Polyp Humboldt is a cancerous, abnormal growth.
This would be a better place to live without that comunist factory
RHBB is a cesspool of comments and lets too many violent or pointless racist comments fester.
IF there are comments you see that break the rules (and no, insulting Cal Poly Humboldt, my much loved alma mater does not do that), please use my name in a response to the comment.
Cesspool…???
Racist…???
That’s a bit of an exaggeration, maybe…
“Melting pot”, would you believe…
I believe that has been used to describe the Good Ole USA itself…
Many of the commenters here represent the worst of what our society has to offer.
I understand this site’s policy of protecting the right of free speech, in part because it keeps us aware of how much hate and ugliness exists. But it is depressing to see some people so burdened by bitterness in such a wonderful place as this. And it is frustrating that, for some reason, some of those people feel the need to dump that ugliness on what I’m sure was intended to be a positive contribution to our community.
🤔🧐,
What I “admire” most are the vocabularies, extraordinary coordination, lack of acrophobia, and dressage skills, of those that frequently comment, SINGLEHANDEDLY, from atop their high horse…
🤷♂️😁😉
TRG, Totally disagree with you directing that at Jebs but, man that is really well worded. I have a few other commenters in mind that deserve it more. I won’t use it in real life but…I’ll think it in their direction. Cleverly said.
I have found that a person should stay off of high horses. It’s such a long ways to the ground and a person has too much time to contemplate their ignorance.
I took TRG’s comment as agreeing with Jebs. Only he knows.
My father always said that “you are that person that you would be if nobody knew who you were.” That’s why I always sign my name.
Otherwise my Nom de Plume would be “Asshole”.
Amen.
More often than not a simple political disagreement gets mis labeled as “Racism / hate”
The road to hell is paved with good intentions….
The road to good intent is plagued by a Hell of mistakes…
I hate to tell you this is not the most racially diverse place I have lived not even close
I don’t think you understand humboldts history it’s still a fairly racist area don’t think there’s been any sweeping changes in the history of the county
I myself think that your never-changing comment is funny. And sometimes- dropped in the correct spot- is perfectly timed and right on. Not always though- but sometimes…
Business…California… Those aren’t synonymous words.
Straight white males need not apply.
The time of the White Male is over.
Lots of minority-owned businesses exist in Northern California, but a lot of them are owned by Koreans, Filipinos, other Asians, and East Indians (now known as South Asians)…
IMO, all the border runners will find a world of low opportunity, expensive living requirements, and excessive Social Programs bearing a confusing world of loans, grants, high rents and equipment costs etc…
Capitalization alone will result in further wasted resources by the State, and low acumen, poor management and poor quality products will result.
Like I said, anybody with a pickup, a lawnmower, a blower and a weed eater can work hard and call himself an entrepreneur, but I won’t pay $50/hour for someone to mow my lawn, because of the number of years I worked before I even made $30/hour, or $60,000/year…
Cal Poly Humboldt should take over the Government of Arcata, the Mad River Hospital Mess, and every thing else up there, because there’s not enough labor available to use this program, much less operate it…
Meanwhile, in the Valley, nobody can get enough employees for anything, and if you make the mistake of stopping at a fast food place, you will find that they have trimmed the headcount, and there will be a logjam at lunchtime, which makes no sense at all…
Remember, Schools are out, and the streets are packed, while the cops are lying in wait to see you speed, DUI or act a fool, or run illegal equipment, so be advised…
