An abandoned house on the Samoa peninsula, west of Eureka, has caught fire. Multiple local fire departments were dispatched after the incident was first reported at approximately 6:30 p.m.

Firefighters are arriving at the scene to tackle the blaze. The cause of the fire is currently unknown.

Please stay clear of the area. Caltrans QuickMaps shows a traffic slowdown on New Navy Base Road.

Note that there is another structure fire on B Street in Eureka that started about an hour and a half ago.

Please remember that information gathered from initial reports is subject to revision as more facts become available.

UPDATE 7:03 p.m.: The Incident Commander reported that the fire is contained.

Pure speculation but I would guess that, although abandoned, the house was not unoccupied.

I just hope there were no folks living in that abandoned house, and if there were hopefully the escape they fire. Bums or not no one deserves to die by fire.
