Redway Woman Injured In Crash that Temporarily Closed 101 Near Last Chance This Morning

Backed up traffic on 101 after crash

Press release from the CHP:

On March 22, 2024, at approximately 0915 hours, [Hortencia Felt of Redway] was driving [a Ford] northbound on US-101 near Mile Post Marker 101 DN 14.65. [Christina J. Brown from Vancover, Canada] was driving [a Volvo] southbound on US-101, near Mile Post Marker 101 DN 14.65. For reasons still under investigation, [Felt] lost control of [her vehicle], causing [it] to travel in a northwest direction across the solid double yellow lines and into [the Volvo’s] path of travel. [Brown] observed [the Ford] traveling into [the Volvo]’s path of travel, but was unable to avoid [it] and the front of [the Volvo] collided with the front of [the Ford]. As a result of this crash, all parties were transported by Del Norte Ambulance to Sutter Coast Hospital for evaluation and treatment. The cause of this crash is still under investigation. Drugs and alcohol have been ruled out as a contributing factor.

Cal Fire, Klamath Fire & Rescue, Caltrans, and Del Norte Ambulance personnel assisted at the scene. Affordable Tow and Robertson’s Automotive towed V-1 and V-2. Traffic control was utilized on scene with minimal delays to traffic on US-101.CHP TC

I’m sure the awful condition of the highway in that section played some part in this accident. When are we going to have safe roads for all the taxes we pay??

Another bad accident on a crappy section of highway. I can’t blame Mrs. Felt for crossing the double yellow line without knowing what caused her to do so. I just thank God that no one was killed. Without a doubt or old rundown highways are in a major need of a complete overhaul to hopefully put a stop to some accidents. Lots of money is wasted at the hands of Governor Newsom, such as the high-speed rail, which still stands unfinished and probably will never be completed. I guess he thinks our area of California does not exist.
