Early Morning Fire Consumes Vacant Residence
Press release Arcata Fire:
On Wednesday, March 6th at 2:49A.M., the Arcata Fire District was dispatched to a residential structure fire on Murray Rd.
Multiple reports came in that a 2-story residential structure was well-involved in fire. The first engine arrived and found a two-story structure 75% involved.
Due to the volume of fire and partial collapse of the compromised structure, firefighters engaged in exterior operations utilizing large hose streams of water and the deck gun. Fuel loading contributed to the long burn time of the fire.
The building was vacant and boarded-up prior to the fire. No civilians or firefighters were injured during this incident, but the structure was a complete loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The Arcata Fire District would like to thank Fieldbrook Volunteer Fire, Westhaven Volunteer Fire, Blue Lake Volunteer Fire, Humboldt Bay Fire and Calfire for responding, and Samoa Fire District for covering our stations during our involvement in this incident.

No doubt yet another transient event
smells like premeditated demo. let me guess a huge hurdle came up while renovating the property with the 2 condemned homes.
I think you nailed it
Dunno. Cold, wet… might have provoked a bum-fire.
The silt fence installation prior seems odd.
wrong
LoCo reported that it burned to the ground. It didn’t! Mainly the siding, exposing all the trash inside. I wonder how long that mess will sit there!
Until the next fire?
They must be copying the USFS Fire Manual…
They’ve already begun the clean up efforts. They are hoping to have the wreckage cleaned up in the next month or so.
I think everyone is going to be very surprised when the real details begin to come out. From, someone who was there that night in the park.
