Arcata City Council to Put Palestine Ceasefire Resolution on Next Council Meeting Agenda

Screenshot of Arcata City Council MeetingPress release from the Redwood Peace and Justice Center Coalition:

After many public comments at their last three council meetings, the Arcata City Council has agreed to discuss a Palestine Ceasefire resolution.

“At last night’s meeting, we, the Redwood Peace and Justice Center Coalition (RPJCC), presented nearly 1500 petition signatures in favor of adding our ceasefire resolution to the Arcata City Council agenda for discussion and vote. We asked the Council to let the public know where they stand on the issue.”

“After nearly three months of organization, coalition-building and community support and public comment, we have successfully achieved our goal of adding a ceasefire resolution to the Arcata City Council Agenda. This comes after a Palestine ceasefire resolution in November failed to obtain the required second council member to agree to discuss the matter.”

“We have been engaging local community groups and faith communities to support our ceasefire resolution.

The exact language of the Palestine ceasefire resolution is yet to be decided, and is expected to be determined at the Arcata City Council agenda setting meeting on Tuesday, February 27th at 5pm.

“We ask for strong and vibrant community support to ensure the ceasefire resolution passes at the next Arcata City Council meeting on Wednesday, March 6th at 6pm. Please write and call your city council members now and let them know you support adding a ceasefire resolution to the agenda.”

Where is the war? Is it in Arcata? No. It’s in the Middle East. What does it have to do with the city of Arcata? Absolutely nothing.

The little piss ant city of Arcata and its totally wacco leadership is either unbelievably arrogant or completely ignorant to think they, through a group of radical anti Israel “protesters” can have any effect on Israel’s right to stamp out the terrorists who attacked them. I would hope Israel won’t stop until the terrorists are all destroyed and all the hostages are all released, nor should they.

A resolution like is being proposed is just another way Arcata is the last place I patronize. The town is a national disgrace.

They may hate Israel but it’s a silly little town with a bunch of very misguided ladies in charge…

Go tear down the statues or fly another flag over the flag of our country…

Maybe elect some men next time…

These people have been fighting for 2000 years, and they are not paying attention to disorganized and poorly-led tiny towns in Northern California…

Farmers from Iowa don’t care, and Arcata needs to run it’s own problems with some priority, and stop listening to commie wackos and Jihadis…

Yeaa…..Umm thats nice…..they can put that new resolution right next to the ”nuke free zone” resolution.
But just remember, Iran will send a nuke right up the city council as soon as they are done with Israel.

Oh please, give me 10 minutes with these dipshits debating Middle East history. Would it make a difference? Of course not they’re true believers and they’ll do what NPR dictates. They have flash card minds that make connecting the dots an impossible task.

Palestinians have every right to resist their oppressors.
Including armed struggle.
Caged in for 17 years where the masters calculate the amount of *calories* allowed inside…no building supplies…only ‘allowed’ medicine etc. etc.–must get ‘permits’ to travel into occupier fenced off territories…for their paltry slave jobs for rich colonists…
I assure you; every dumbshit poster here would rebel too.

FREE PALESTINE STOP THE GENOCIDE
STOP THE KILLING OF CHILDREN!!!!

The conditions that Israel has opposed on Palestine are horrendous. But those conditions are a result of decades of terrorists attacks.

They bombed public areas countless times. They once bombed a mall then sent another suicide bomber to the hospital were victims were taken.

Every time a political leader of Palestine adopted support for a two state solution, they lost the support of the Palestinians.

Yes the conditions under which Palestinians lives breed terrorists, but ultimately those conditions are not the root cause of the terrorism. It is a deep seated religious hatred of Jews and a refusal to share the holy land that is the root cause of the conflict.

There is no genocide unless you count Hamas as an ethnicity.

For decades Palestinian terrorist have successfully used children as human shields, while they intentionally targeted civilians including children. IF they want a cease fire then they can simply offer to return the hostages that have taken.

The terrorist attacks of Palestinian organizations are the result of Israeli aggression.
The whole cycle of violence needs to stop.
A ceasefire is a great way to start.

No.Losing the six days war, a war fought for reasons of religious ideology) doe not justify terrorists attacks. A ceasefire would be great and if Hamas wanted one they could have it, they simply have to release their hostages.

Hamas has proposed a ceasefire.
Israel rejected it. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-68232883
Hamas has also, long before the present exchange of hostilities, made proposals that could lead to a long-term peace.
Israel rejected those too. https://www.nbcnews.com/id/wbna24235665
Israel does not want peace.
Israel wants total control of the entire region.

Bullpucky. The Arab Palstinians were attacking Jews long before Israel existed. In fact before the Ottoman Empire was on the losing side of WWI, the policy had been to prevent the Jews, who were being ousted by Russian wholesale, from finding refuge in the Middle East while encouraging Arabs from outside the area moving there as a government policy.
These Arab overmasters of the local population were happily selling off the land taken away from poor local farmers to sell to zionist organizations, who used these organizations to circumvent the restrictions against jews. The capitalists Arab only became alarmed when the results of their greed looked to be a loss of their Islamic dominance in the area. They then found common “cause” with the very locals they displaced to attack Jewish communities that had gained a foothold long before the Jews started to retaliate.
The people you call Palestinians now are no more indigenous to the area than Jews. You just arbitrarily, without examination, pick a side because it fits your personal axe you want to grind. And make a fiction that the Arab Palestinians are innocent victims when they were always colonizers too. Just less successful ones.

Agree. Shame on our country for supporting another genocide. But wait! Aren’t Bible thumping, God and Jesus praying, Old Testament loving ,genocidal, murderous, greedy, immoral, heartless, entitled, children killing, tribe destroying, slave owning opportunist devils the founders if the United States of Hypocrisy? No wonder the Zionists of Israel have it so easy to get US support. Judgement Day is coming.

Easier to talk when you’re not shooting.
I have watched the zealots in the middle east screw each other over long enough to think maybe they deserve each other.
One thing for sure is that we need to pull in our horns a little.
