As of 11:17 a.m., authorities are requesting the Fort Bragg public shelter-in-place as they work to apprehend a shooting suspect.

Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Captain Greg Van Patten told us the shelter-in-place is the result of an active law enforcement situation near mile marker 4 along State Route 20 east of Fort Bragg. Officers are searching for a man suspected of discharging a firearm multiple times last night and this morning.

The Nixle Alert describes the suspect as a “white male adult with neck tattoos last seen wearing a blue jacket and dark jeans.”

UPDATE 1:05 p.m.: As per an update released via Nixle, the Shelter in Place has been lifted, law enforcement is “clear of the area”, but the wanted subject is still at large. The Nixle update contained new information about the at large suspect sought for his role in a series of shootings last night and this morning. He could be associated with a dirt bike and he was last seen in the area of Shangri La Drive in Fort Bragg.

Please remember that this story is unfolding. Information is being reported as we gather it. However, some of the information coming from witnesses and initial official reports could be wrong. We will do our best to get the facts but, in the case that something is inaccurate, we will update with correct information as soon as we can.
