The recipients each received $3,000 to use toward higher education in natural resources areas of study. The scholarships were awarded by the program’s state boards.

This is the 76th year the scholarships have been presented in memory of Mark E. Reed, who was Simpson Logging Company’s president from 1914 until his passing in 1933. Reed played a significant part in the history and development of the company and influenced the education of many young people across the communities in which Green Diamond has a presence.

To be eligible for the scholarship, an individual must be a Green Diamond employee, a son or daughter of an employee, or reside in one of the company’s Washington operating communities.

Scholarships may be used for tuition, books or living expenses incurred while pursuing education beyond high school. Award recipients must attend school on a full-time basis during the academic year of the scholarship.

I think this is great. Sure its much more than I provide scholarship money wise but I really hope they indoctrinate their sustainable logging practices into the youth! Thanks Green Diamond!
